Level & Ship

there shouldn't be any limitations at all, I think you read the manual, but I should tell you that the manual is wrong about many things.

Ahoy and welcome aboard, Usgeni! Pull up a keg and have a seat, have a couple on us!

Khalkaroth is correct, the manual explains much of nothing about the game. :(

You are much better off here asking questions and finding answers! Glad to have you with us, you'll have a great time at PA! :cheeky

if you can capture a ship or afford to buy one (AFAIK all ships types are available to buy if your using the build, if not some can only be captured) then you can sail it. That being said, i don't know if its really feasible to capture a MOW or battleship with a level one captain as you'd be slaughtered in the boarding process, if you managed to avoid the broadsides on the way in. The reviewer is either making an assumption or is refering to the fact that bigger ships are harder to board and therefore you do need to level up a bit before trying to capture one. He's also not entirely correct about larger ships being better, if your in a 'navy' and are just going about sinking enemy ships then large ships are perfect .... but if your being a pirate then you want something faster like a xebec BR, corvette, or a certain special frigate .. and perhaps a galleon or MOW with a skeleton crew to carry all your booty :cheers

This doesn't sound entirely correct.

The ships one has access to was based around Hawk's leadership. Hawk couldn't buy a Battleship at a LEADERSHIP of 1. Theoretically, at level 1 if he had a high enough leadership level he could purchase a Battleship ...

<!--`QuoteBegin-readme`+--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(readme)</div><div class='quotemain'><!--QuoteEBegin-->The manual mentions the player's rank will limit the class of ship that the player can steer. This is incorrect. The player's rank does not limit the player's ability to steer or command a larger ship.[/quote]

doesn't mention leadership specifically, but (unless this was changed by the build) it doesn't seem like it would have any effect at all. also given that after starting a new game and before leaving oxbay i could buy a frigate from the shipyard (with a leadership of 1) i don't think that leadership has anything to do with what sort of ship you can sail unless you just need a specific leadership to sail level 1 ships ... which seems rather stupid if it only applies to level one ships.

either way it would be nice to know for sure.

The leadership level was to directly correspond with the ships you could sail. I level 5 pirate with 1 skill in leadership couldn't command a level 1 Battleship.

At least that is how it was SUPPOSED to be ... Before the Mod patch this was how it worked in my own game as well. I could care less honestly.

My favorite thing is to overtake a merchant caravan with a couple Battleships as their escort. Pick 'em all off! :cheers

I'm with Skull...buy ships??? what the heck for =) Just go grab yourself one. Only in my first game did I mess with the MoW's. They are to dang slow and and turn like a mac truck. I board and plunder myself. Even forts can be taken with smaller but well armed ships.

Despite what the various things say, and despite the experience of Sea Dogs, neither level nor leadership has any affect on what you can sail.

Although I thought ya had to have a certain level of rank before ya could run into a MOW for example ?

Eh?
Oh, yes, the _encounters_ are indeed based on level. Well, and capped by ship if you enable that option (i.e. your level for encounter purposes is capped at 2 x (8 - your ship class).)
It does not, however, affect what's available in yards; and once you've acquired a ship (however you do) it has no effect.

What Difficulty settings do people usually play on?? I've heard people say that they have level 35 officers that kick ass and My officers are on level 140 and they still get killed on boardings and Im on 135 and still get killed. Im playing on Swashbucket difficulty is that why im still getting killed? or am i not doing something right.

Does anyone else encounter this problem:

When you go to the ship yard to repair or buy a new ship and when you click on one of your ships in the shipyard menu it laggs really really badly. does anyone know a fix for this problem?

Thanks
