'Lucky' Jack Aubrey vs Jack Sparrow

Capitan

Landlubber
Let us say, that while sailing through the Carribbean on patrol, the HMS Suprise happened upon the Black Pearl and Jack Sparrow. Being the outstanding naval officer that Aubrey is, he decides to sink the Pirate scum. So, who would come out the winner of this engagement. Jack Aubrey and the HMS Suprise or Jack Sparrow and the Black Pearl?

Aye, good question. I don't know really cause in potc Jack Sparrow don't lead the Black Pearl, so nobody knows if he's a good captain in battle ship.

Aubrey is a good captain and leader in battle and like pirates he use some trick.

The question is like asking what movie is the best potc or m&c ?
I think these movies can't be compare and the caracters can't be too.

The Black Pearl is a very fast ship. So Jack might not be able to win, but he WILL be able to flee! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />

My doubloons would be on Aubrey, fortunately, for Captain Jack Sparrow, they are not contemporaries.

What odds are you giving for Aubrey versus Barbossa?

Hmmm... a Galley, versus a frigate? Just spitballing here - an average two-vessel sea battle, given a decent lookout detail, could easily last a couple of days. It would come down to who siezed the weather gage. A Galley could arguably crowd on more sail than a frigate, and gain even more speed given enough hands on her sweeps.

If the Galley showed her heels, she'd have four or more chases to fire, while the frigate would be loathe to fire her bow chasers for fear of losing ground. The Galley could overtake the frigate, by clapping on sail and using sweeps, but for how long is anyone's guess. Should the frigate run for it, the sweeps could overcome the use of the Galley's bow chasers in a pinch, but knowing Aubrey, he'd use the frigate's tighter tack to slash the Galley's sail with raking shot.

I guess with all my postulating I'm really saying that I'd pay hard money to see that battle play out! It would be one hell of a chess match, with the ballsiest commander carrying the day.

Depends which Aubrey is vs Sparrow. Like if you take young Aubrey on the Sophie, Sparrow might have the upper hand since the Jacks crew was not really at its peak preformance, plus Jack though still inteligent and able, I think he might be prone to make a mistake or two.

Now, if you take older Aubrey on Surprise, this is a more fordimable opponent, although maybe not as fast as Sparrows ship, Aubrey had would you would call I think a crack frigate, every man aboard knew his duty and knew it well. Im sure Aubrey might try to cut out the Pearl in an evening raid of some sort.

Lastly, older Aubrey on Surprise/Suffolk. Aubrey still had his wits but he was getting old, after several engagements he's been hurt time and time again, even lost some of his vision. Surprise still had most of its old crew but also alot of new hands, therefore its abilities might be slightly less than what they were in comparison to the Surprise back in its height of efficiancy. Sparrow would still have a good fight ahead of him but could get out ahead. Finally on the Suffolk, the ship was not ment for speed or chaising other vessels, as long as the Pearl was able to get away from the Suffolks range or avoid being boarded at night while anchored, Sparrow would come on top.
