Major Problems with post 12 build + update

First of all the build 12.1 works fine for me, so I upgrade to post 12 build and install the update (5 May 05) and install the cutthroat island music on Pieter's website. All good so far. Then I start a new game, select my character and find myself marrooned on a desert island. Ok so the story seems to have been disabled but thats fine because the story only keeps you interested for so long. I wander through the jungle seeking refuge from the rain and get killed by 3 pirates on the way - i never stood a chance. With no health bottles and after them firing 3 shots at me in 2 secs flat my health was virtually zero.

Anyway I wake up in the tavern room, wander downstairs and discover a "she-man" (a man and a woman occupying the same space). Wierd bug but ok I overlook it. Then I go to the store to buy some stuff and find I cannot click on the arrows to increase/decrease the quantity and no its not because I dont have the dosh because I find I cannot sell either. Ok I ignore this and go back to port where I set sail. I dont get a chance, I get a quick flash back to the french capturing oxbay and it returns to the port, when 20 port guns fire at me from ashore and my ship sinks in literally 1 second flat. What the? Weird. Does anyone else have a problem with Post 12 build or is there something I need to do to get it to work (I've followed Pieter's instuctions including running the english.bat file).

Would be extrememly grateful for help anyone can provide.
 
When you start a new game, you are supposed to first enter in the tutorial cabin. Does that happen at all? It should.

The story has not been disabled at all.

I know about the can't-buy-cargo bug. It's been fixed in the latest update I released yesterday. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

When you leave Oxbay Port, you have to raise French colours (or Portuguese) to trick the French who have taken over the town to think you are one of them. Then you won't get shot.

Sounds like he took the Stormy Start routine Pieter, after talking with Malcolm, and this can be real tough with no good weapons or crew, and never played with any of the new stuff or Islands since build 12.

Pretty disorienting to say the least
 
Sounds very much like the Storm start,which is my fav way of starting.It's like a lucky dip, you never know which island you start from.

The " She / Man " is where you have a female character & a male character standing exactly in the same place.This has happened on the rare occasion.
 
If you play a stormy start, you can still play the main quest. It starts as soon as you sail near Oxbay. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yes" border="0" alt="yes.gif" />
 
Thanks for the info guys. Unfortunately I never got the chance to choose anything. I clicked on the portrait of my character and next thing I know I was being washed up on the island (i.e. no conversation with malcolm).
 
Yeah happened to me.. i land in Khael roe HAHAH wen through the temple and all, then i re-started. And figured out wat u say choses wat happenes. IMpoosible to said out of that damn place!
 
What the heck? Why don't you get into the tutorial cabin? Just a thought: Open up BuildSettings.h and search the file for "helper". You will find some settings having to do with the PotCModHelper program. Please check these settings. If the PotCModHelper is enabled and the location is said to something that is not tut_deck, that would explain what happens. Easy fix then: Turn PotCModHelper off again usin the BuildSettings.h setting.
