Very nice, KevO, a Denix flintlock! I have one (not that model, but a simple English flintlock - for everyday use, LOL!) and I really like it. Actually as I look at it now, it's a percussion cap pistol, not a flintlock... So to fire it you need (ostensibly, as it's a `non-firing` replica) percussion caps as well as powder and shot. The one I have is a flintlock, a little earlier... I really like yours - very cool!!! It's just not "period" for my use on a early 1600's pirate costume...

Denix makes an Italian `triple-barrel` flintlock that I am dying to get... Check this out:

Sweet, hm? The barrels actually rotate... Nicely made... I've been talking to myself about buying this one for quite some time now...

Heck, even in the 1860's there were pirates, it's just not what people consider to be the "golden age" of piracy...
 
Ha, thats exactly what I mean.....Now I'm not to sure on the year, but I believe late 1700's
 
My pistols are kind of a mishmosh of designs, my "everyday" pistol is an English flintlock from the early 1600's, and I have another that has some interesting designs on the "wood" (the wood is actually some kind of plastic) that brings to mind a French pistol that might have been used during the mid 1700's, plus if I consider that Italian model above - I think that one is late 1600's... The way I see it, if I am a pirate, I've plundered from a LOT of different ships - and picked up weapons from wherever...

those who volunteered to board enemy ships first got to pick the best out of the pistols they looted from the crew and captain of the prize...

thus having ridiculously ornate and pretty guns became a status thing for pirates, the prettier the gun the braver the pirate was asumed to be....

Yep, that was my whole idea with my pistols - a mottley collection, not all matched, tho matched fancies would be nice, heh! I haven't gotten that triple barrel yet, but plan to.

yarrr mateys, I know its sad but hey, i bought a fair few piratey tidbits recently. theres the chest as promised a photo of, but I also got me some pirate boots, a new funky bandana as my old one died in the wash, and me new flintlock pistol... its not the best out there but I wanted a real rough and ready one and I loved the cute lil X bones on the handle.

oh and I found me pirate lego from when I was a kid, thisll keep me busy for hours yet!

saw the same lego set on ebay for a five pounds the other week so Ill not be selling mine if they only get that much... buying a few more however... 'I could have the makings of my very own fleet'
