MILITARY

leongt

Master Mariner
after finishing POTC build 11, I started a military career with england but all I get is distroy this pirate and that pirate but that's all, do you get mission's to attack anyone apart from pirate's ?

No, unfortunately that's about it. Just go around hitting on some of the side quests you may have missed, and do some trading and smuggling on the side. Eventually you'll get a good rep going, and a good rank - and the gov will start introducing you to his nieces and daughter...

I'm working on a new quest, and I think there are some others too... Takes a lot of time, unfortunately... But there are lots of good things in the works. :) :cheers

am alrady a Hero and at Marquess rank with 3 MOW and 11 million in the bank and married his daughter, throught it mite lead to some thing, the clean version of POTC was harder for me than the build 11 version.

Heh... You sound like me. Have you tried upping the difficulty level? That makes it MUCH more challenging.

Making my side quest mod for the game has kept me with my head in it... You could try that, if you're as insane as I am, LOL! :)

Ahoy Leongt, , talk tew one of yer officers an chose "about me" in de dialog, then chose" I don't seem to quite fit right in this world" an yew should get difficulty setting choices :)

Perhaps when the Expansion is released with the new islands it would make it easier to do some different randomly generated quests for the Governors.
There were a few ideas that I have but they aren't easy or even possible to do right now and ATM I don't have the knowledge to do them myself.

I figured out to start a new game then exit out of it then load my save game and the settings were ok and I was abel to change them, as for new quest's I'm not a programer but I imagine it's not a simple thing to do, unlike Morrowind were they give to a construction kit and every thing is drag and drop stuff with just a bit of programing too do, hope to see something new soon as I like POTC a lot, unlike Age Of Sail that had so many bugs in it I gave up in discust and I've never played it again, I went and booted up my old Amiga 1200 and played pirates instead.

Heh, Leongt, we have ALLLLL done that (replayed the old beloved games) in one form or another! I, myself, get into Uncharted Waters New Horizons every once in a while... Ollllllld game, but man, utterly replayable, like Pirates!. (the new one looks awesome!)

You shouldn't have needed to start another game to change things - you can change difficulty "on the fly" as it were... Like Skull mentioned, just talk to one of your `tavern-hired` officers and tell him, "I don't seem to quite fit right in this world" to make your changes.

And as far as new quests are concerned, if you had asked me two months ago if I would be working on a new quest for PotC, I'd have laughed... But I'm doing it... And I don't know whatintheheck I'm doing, but I'm learning! :yes

I've been doing this mostly on my own with very little help (my choice, so I LEARN), and it's been painful (see the smiley below my banner sig) but it's been fun, too...

Like Cat says making new quests is not easy.

I did start a very small one myself but trying to split the dialog so it goes into the .h files gave me a headache and it seemed to screw up the inital Rys Bloom dialog as well
:yes

The ideas that I had for some extra Military work was based on what is in the game at the moment. Also I made a note of some of them from the old forum, unfortunately I can't remember who posted what suggestion
:cheers
1. Meet a spy on an enemy island and collect some information from him and return to the Governor. Possibly have Tobias return for the English. Also use the Coastguard code to sort out some "interruption" when you meet the spy so possibly using a shore for this could make it easier.
2. Copy the existing Pirate Hunting code and modify it to generate an enemy ship or better yet a convoy that you have to sink.
3. Sink an enemy convoy that is going to set sail from or sail near to another island.

There are a few others as well but they would only really work when the Expansion is released and there are more then one island for each nation. For example:
1. Diplomatic dispatches to either a friendly nation or to another islad belonging to the same nation.
2. Escort a VIP/ship/prisoner to another friendly island.

The more of these we can put into the game then the more options we can get when we ask a Governor for some work.

Believe me Rico when you've completed even the simplest of mods it will make you feel great :yes

There is no better way of learning then trying yourself. If it doesn't work then at least you will have learnt from the experience and who knows perhaps you'll find out how to do something that the other modders didn't think was possible or never even thought about.

There's a couple more minor tweaks that I want to try before I carry on with my first quest and then I might experiment with one of these ideas or see about adding a generated quest to the Loansharks like a courier mission to one of his colleagues on another islad and/or one of the pirate settlements.

<!--`QuoteBegin-Rico`+--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Rico)</div><div class='quotemain'><!--QuoteEBegin-->catalina! how far have you got with the `quest-making`?[/quote]Moving slowly at the moment. Have some commands issues (a character in the quest is not doing what I want them to do) that I am working through. The biggest problem is TESTING - it's repetitive and boring unless you are making some headway. If you are not seeing any kind of improvement it is FRUSTRATING and tedious. It takes a LOT of time to get it done *right* - and I want it done right - I could have this character do something else, or just live with it as it is, but for the sake of the story I want it to be a certain way - and it is taking a long time to pull together.

I think the most frustrating thing is having the end of the quest in sight and being stalled.

I have placed my own "stumbling block" in front of me in that I am NOT a coder and I have to learn to CODE!!! (LOL!) I am learning - but I don't want to have someone do it for me - it's not learning, that way...

Long process... But I'm muddling through it. :cheers

It's gonna be a great quest when it's finished, even if I do say so myself! :yes

Well, not sure. The original idea for this mod was that these two new characters were going to escape "to a new archipelago" and that was the expansion package archipelago. This was going to be a jumping off point for some continuing adventures when the expansion package was released. However I am not quite sure that any further adventures will be possible because of other stumbling blocks. So I see no point in doing anything that will connect to the expansion package at all. :p3

I think there will be only a mention of the voodoo ship - so I will probably just release the new ship skins (when they're done) and be over with it. To date I have not done much with the ship skins since I got so involved with the PMT and had personal life troubles... xD: My main focus has been to get this quest released.

Besides, by the time the PMT releases the expansion package we'll probably all be playing all the new pirate games won't care about PotC anymore! :will

wellll ..... after the `re-installing` the whole potc .......
I got this build to work just fine again ......
and NOW I just ENJOY the game again

But I `re-started` game `8-10` times this weekend ........
:will

Glad you got it working again, JSJ... I know what it is, restarting the game repeatedly - sometimes you just want to get things *right* when you start out...

LOL Rico... 3000? That's pretty funny. Are you playing at Swashbuckler level? What are your enemy XP stats like? :will

Har! ain"t at de truth Cat, Swahbuckler setting wid Skelly Bob's gunboat, not recommended fer Newbies :woot :woot
