Aaarrrgggghhhh!!!
I've been waiting for this game for months but just realised that the min requirements are 1.0 ghz processor and I only have a 933.
Running WinXP Pro with 512 mgs ram.
Do you think I can run Pirates!? There is no upgrade in the near future, I'm afraid. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":c" border="0" alt="mad.gif" />

Yer in mo' betta shape den ol' Fred Bob's lil' 733! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" /> Gonna try it at any rate! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yes" border="0" alt="yes.gif" /> Ye kin always do a little graphical tweakin', etc... <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="icon_wink.gif" />

Thanks for responding FredBob! I have a second drive I run Warcraft lll on and if I take the plunge, I'll put it on that drive and see if I can tweak it a bit. Not too much on the 2nd drive so I might get away with it. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/onya.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="onya.gif" />

memory is ok, but i think your a bit light on the speed, i think you could get away with a 1.4 or something but anything less id say you may have to turn shadows and other stuff of. But in general Pirates! is not taxing on a standard system at all <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

Have either of you OC'd your CPU?

If not you may want to give it a shot.. There is allot of good ducumentation out there for you to check out, start with mainboard manual. I would recomend that you keep an eye on the temp of your CPU and Mobo though.. there are a bunch of free utils out there that can monitor these temps. Check your temps before you decide to try to OC tho.. you'll want to keep these as cool as possible. Maybe do a little case clean up too.. if there is a tangled mess in there then airflow will be restricted and the temp will rise.. also keep the inside dust free.. a layer of dust will work to keep the heat on those boards. Any ways do the research before you take the leap becuase it could damage you pc.

Intel P4E 3.0 OC'd 3.6

If you are today still under 1Ghz CPU i think buying a new CPU, MB and RAM would be the better idea <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

it's only going to get worse meaning as CPUs get faster, game developers are going to take advantage of that and quit worrying about those people who lag far behind the technology curve. i mean they're approaching 4 GHz so a 733 or 933 will soon go the way of unleaded gas. Santa is coming soon or work after school instead of goofing on the computer and buy that state of the art system soon! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/onya.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="onya.gif" />

Everyone dont wanna spend money on new computers.

CalicoJack.

I believe that you will have no problem to play Pirates if you have a decent graphiccard.

whats your graphiccard?

Yes upgrading would be the better solution, however in the mean time you may as well squeeze all you can out of what you have. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/bookish.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":mm" border="0" alt="bookish.gif" />

My thanks to all who answered. I guess some of you didn't read my entire post, where at the end I said an upgrade is NOT in my near future. I would love to upgrade, but the only reason I got the game today was that I was planning it for a while. I can NOT afford to upgrade. There are other things more important than upgrading my pc. My job is in limbo at the moment and I'm not going to go into that here.
Again, thanks to those who answered and if I can get the game to run, I'll try to post my impressions later today or Wednesday. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/onya.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="onya.gif" />
