another miniature mod...

this one adds a button to 'international affairs' which allows you to raise a neutral flag... which you can customise. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/happy.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="^_^" border="0" alt="happy.gif" /> instructions in the zip file.

<b>you have to have 'new new new custom sails' installed before you install this</b>. (i'm beginning to wish i hadn't given it such a long name now <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/happy.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="^_^" border="0" alt="happy.gif" /> )

the file is "Kieron - International Affairs Update.zip" on the pirates ahoy ftp.

it's only a little one <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" /> i decided i wouldn't work on any 'big' ones till after the build, and i'd get the niggly things that i've been avoiding for years out of the way.

I put this here because I forget which thread had the `flags-on`-masts discussion.

I've done a bit of thinking (a dangerous thing, heh) and viewing in GM Viewer. And I've noticed an interesting thing.
Flags are there simply as locators; so, you can add the appropriate flag locators to the one place you _want_ them (either off the mizzen halyard IIRC or the mizzen top, or off a flagpole (fifth mast?)), and then delete them everywhere else.

And then, the brilliant part--create new _sails_ and assign _them_ custom textures (since if I read your code right Kieron you can assign a texture to each individual sail...), and they'll look pretty much like flags.
Won't flutter _quite_ right, but it should be close enough for gubmint work.

True flagsaffs would be excellent. I have longed to see that vile tricolor chasing after a big French `man-o`-war for quite a while now.

my code doesn't allow that but can easily be changed <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/happy.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="^_^" border="0" alt="happy.gif" /> currently just allows a normal texture and an emblemed texture.

have you tested this, nathan? what does it look like `in-game`?

And doing e' looks almost worse.
Mais vous avez raison, monsieur. La langue française, c'est une belle langue, une langue qui mérite la ponctuation parfaite!

Re: above. No, this is just speculation, but I don't see why it wouldn't work. Might have restricted flag movement though for the `sail-flags`.
