Modding ability

Wat exactly can be modded in SMP, all i have seen so far its just skin deep, i havn't seens any "real" mods that actually change gameplay, so i was wondering whether anything except appearence can be modded?

To my knowledge, the answer so far is no (not yet?). There´s one guy, Cyberops, who´s working on a sort of a trainer which can influence a bunch of gameplay topics as well, but other than that it looks dark. The problem is, while Pirates is quite open for Customiation, it´s less so for real modding - and by that the complete opposite of PotC.

Not much activity on mods fer SMP,thar be a few cosmetic mods but nuth'n fer new quests,I'd be think'n someone managed ter make a new ship, maybe sump'n will come outta Firaxis since they bought Atari out,one can certanly hope <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

i think a complany should make the game extreamly moddable, if anyone has UT2004 for PC you know wat i'm talking about.

That way it doesn't matter if what the company releases suks cause the community will fix it anyways and make the game worth playing.

other examples of this are
Forgotten Hope for BF1942 (some considered the original very arcadey, this mod makes it more realistic)
Mods that fixed up POTC (carried the game)
and many others.

Maybe you should talk to Firaxis about this.

Different companies, different policies <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dunno.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shrug" border="0" alt="dunno.gif" />
Some do believe in modding ability as a sale promoter, but others don´t.

Firaxis does value moddability - take a look at Civilization III...

I don't know why they went the other way when it came to Pirates!, however... Perhaps they were in a hurry and did not have time to make the system as easy to tweak and mod as possible... Or they mistook moddability as customisability (flags and sail emblems)...

what about age mod?
can someone built it. I want to pirate 'till dead <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

That means, if you do not divide the plunder, you can play until you get tired of the game.

Actually there are a lot of modding options but you just have to know how to do it in this game. 1 thing is for sure they did not make it mod friendly
