Modding Away Skeletons and Skeleton-Monkeys?

Well, I'm new to both the forums and to POTC, although I have played Sea Dogs, Cutthroats and the Pirates! series alot. I was just wondering if there was anyway to remove the random appearance of skeletons and skeleton-monkeys from the game? I've had a quick look around the forum and will certainly check out the Build mod, but if that doesn't get rid of the skeletons, is there any other way? It's just that I favor historical and well, realistic gaming, and having a skeleton monkey hop out of the grass to bite me, sure puts a real damper on my gaming experience.....


Furthermore, I read a POTC guide, and it talked about smuggling....how exactly does that work in-game?

I don't think it'd be too hard too remove the undead from the game, although I think that may have to be a personal mod that you make yourself. Unless of course there are alot of others that want them out, too, in which case someone may make that a selectable mod for the Build. Maybe just removing the character description from a number of the PROGRAM files would probably do the trick, however I haven't really thought about doing that too much so don't quote me. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />

Look around in taverns and you're bound to find some shady characters willing to deal in smuggled goods. Talk to them and they'll let you know what to do.

Thanks for the response, but can you tell me exactly what I have to do to get rid of them? I'm afraid I don't have much experience with modding this game....

Oh, and also, using the Build 12.1, is there anyway to change the skin/face of your starting character?

In the Pre Build 13 pack, there is a SKELETON_CHANCE and MUMMY_CHANCE setting in BuildSettings.h that you can set to 0 to disable skeleton encounters.

You can choose a different outfit by talking to Malcolm Hatcher. You can but new outfits from tailor's shops.
 
Thanks for the disabling help, but I was wondering about the starting character. I read on the forum about how you should get a starting character screen where you can choose a character.....but I haven't ever gotten one of those. I'm using Build 12.1, so perhaps this character selection is a newer feature?
 
Yep, that's right. It's a feature of the Pre-Build 13 which was introduced a couple of months ago.

You should be able to change your starting character skin in Build Settings. Use the POTCModHelper tool in your POTC Tools folder.
