Modding my install - activating "/hulln/" textures.

HundertzehnGustav

Watchman... up there, thinking.
CMV 3,2... :onya :mm

the "Bellona" Type of ship, :woot :will :luv

C:\Program Files (x86)\Playlogic\Age of Pirates 2 - CMV 3.2\RESOURCE\Textures\Ships\Bellona1\

there are the subfolders Hull1, 2 and 3

in Hull2, there is a file called bellona.tga.tx
red and black and some brown.
I have painted planes before (Il-2 Shtormovik and CFS3), so is that the file i need to paint the ships main hull parts? I have no experience with objects having multiple textures (FSX?), but i figure this can not be an issue.

In Hull1 and Hull3, there are similar filenames to be found, the files in themselves having similar content.

Why is it so that i only get the red hull version in the game? Why are the other versions (Hull1, 3) never showing up?

If there is a way i can enable these to randomly show up (rathe rthan swap files in and out...) the question is: HOW? (in the bellona.gm file?? i do not think so, or?)

This seems to be the case for other ships too, the Superbe, the Mordaunt... wich is a pity because somewhere someone spent a whole lot of time putting paint on these ships, only to see these files sit there, idling, useless... :(

:) :)

They should randomly spawn in the shipyard and at sea. That is why there are three hull types.

they never did for me. and i have seen maybe 12-16 bellonas so far, and bought one every time, just to see.
It works with other ship types tho, the dutch escort ship for example.
same trouble for the Mordaunt and the "le superbe" -no randomness.

tech question: where to find the "randomness factor"?

Dorgh...#
what one gets in photoshop is not what one gets ingame.
But i am getting there...
does someone have the Mapping info for the Bellona? (notice the white rings on the bow

above, one sees the ship just out of the shipyard... here she has had a coat of protective vernis applied.
Lets see what one can paint on her...

Nice job mate. Good work, she looks pretty indeed. If you can make it so the game spawns hull 4, 5, and 6 as well as 1, 2, 3 i would be much obliged to sir.

thanks.
no clue how to do such a thing with hull 4, 5, 6... would be a hoot tho. unlimited repaints ON, paintshop frenzy ON, download limits BUSTED
:D
the bellona is a b!tch to paint.... the mapping is all over the goddamn place, especially the rear section and some details like the gaillon figure, the cannon doors and others are... a mess.
but i am having fun anyway. :onya
especially like the white blue one. looks peaceful. but i wonder... is such a paint job anywhere close to realistic? i see yellow and brown and dark tones of all sorts in ship profiles. but never white...

hmmm. put up some comments, gents?

Brownblue
Brownbrightblue
Whiteblue
rear panel frustration
Whiteblue II
(insert pic thing no working? - nah, i put up the wrong imageshack reference... D´orgh!)

still no clue how to activate hull4;5;6
had looked in "upgrades.c", but no go so far... have Hull4;5;6;7;8;9 activated in there, and these skins largely differ from the default ones. ingame bought seven Bellonas so far, but nada.- zilch njet, nothing .

:(
would we/i need to create a "second" HMS bellona, in order to add skins? I don't mind, there is no shortage of HDD space, but...

??

and how would i go about doing that... errrr....

edit: original problem of only "1" set of textures showing up ingame solved. On Bellona, the 3 default textures (red/black ; yellow/black ; white/black) are showing up after a reinstall. Other ships too. still, hungry for more...

sure thing, mate!
been there at least a dozen times :) :bow - matter of fact, i follow your posts like a DR. HOUSE fan watches his latest episodes :keith . Just keeping my mouth shut

but i don´t understand your post.
there is some "reading between the lines" to be done with it, some hidden message, but uhm... i suck at that. what you wanna say? what am i ´sposed to understand, but don´t? :facepalm

if its about paintjob count: there is never enough textures to clothe beautiful objects in, never enough clothes to dress a lady. [even if clothes-less that lady is the most beautiful...]
if its about shipcount: i don´t see where there is a hint about adding a clone of a ship? been digging the modding forum yesterday, still not found a single snippet of knowledge... :mm

LOL, that is screenshots of new textures and it shows off a few other little things but i won't go into to much detail about them. If you know your ships from just seeing them then you will know what has changed. If Craiggo wishes to point out his changes then he can but i will leave that for him to choose, but what i will say is you will be suprised at the level of things changed in GOF and in the ships. Searchingo for posts pointing out features in GOF or general things to do with GOF is not going to help because the modding team have been keeping things between our selves but you will be more than happy when you do get to play GOF. :onya

what ever you sailors do, i will take a few minutes to review the files, for sure.

but other than that, me, like others, paitiently wait ... :)
take your time. Craiggo went berserk on the "battleship" the planking below the waterline... must have yost you a few "minutes" to do... more like an entire week ^^

Ya, it took a few days on that one. If we can figure out how to have more then three textures I would loose my mind with happiness but alas, it seems to be elusive at the moment. I like your textures, can you upload them to me and I'll see if the guys want to include them in our latest mod?

well, i found a way, sort of.
Luke taught me how to copy a ship...
made a copy of HMS Bellona, named HMS Defence, its sistership. she has her very own Hull1/2/3s (custom paintjobs) and slightly different stats.

Pro^s n Con^s
===============
+more skins able to use
+same ship, different stats
+i know how to do it now, can repeat as many times as desired and upload if people doing modpacks are interested.

-new entries in several files, error risks, compatibility troubles ahead
-needs HDD space, since the entire ship is copied

have searched high and low, but not been able to find anything to "enable" more hull_n folders.

Taking the opportunitity to thank Luke - i found the first steps, but he guided me all the way to the end, foolproof, and i had several "ahaaaa!" moments along the way.
From his instructions, i assembled a tutorial, which i will make public too.
This sh*t gets more amusing every day.

also found the creator of the HMS Bellona is among us, hoping to catch up with the man and get some info :)

Thank you guy's for such kind words and of course HundertzehnGustav i am happy to been of some help. I don't know if the textures are hard coded so that the game only has a maximum of 3 hull folders to select from but like with anything or almost anything their are way's to manipulate the code to increase things or make things work in different way's. Knowing how to add new code is something that is a must though and that is something i do not know. The amount of hull folder's the game uses could be as simple as a value set in one or more files or it could be several lines of code each pointing to a different hull folder. Adding more lines but pointing to hull folder 4, 5 and another to hull 6 might make the game open to use those as well. however that would require a lot of trial and error and scanning through many files to find all references to the hull folder's. If you know what you are looking for then their is no harm in trying, just backup all files you find refernces in before editing them to be on the safe side. This also means you never accidently miss a file out, when adding ships for example i use to have a folder with just the files for the ships on the desktop, this ment i could make sure from looking in their that i didn't miss a file out.

and for convenience's sake, i created a"addship" folder on the desktop with links ot the files needed to add ships...
checklists and backup is the key in this business :D
i will keep looking for all and anything related to "hull", "tga" and *tga.tx" over the next few days, spreading through the files that can be opened in notepad.
then i will see what i might find in anytthing else (dll files???)
no promises tho... i am nothing but a dude with a paintbrush and a screwdriver... cannot work the programmer' s magic.
;)
