nollekepeper

Landlubber
I have installed NK build11,now can i change my abilities and reputation for a new game?
I tried to open character.ini with texteditor but the values are gone, now the values are replaced with "NK"

Can anyone help please???

Thanks

in build 11 you can change your party's starting money, rank and ship in buildsettings.h.

i have done a slight tweak where you can also change your character's starting wealth in buildsettings.h, which should be available in the next build.

if you'd like, i could also put starting reputation in buildsettings.h?

adding starting abilities is slightly more complicated, but remember you can set your starting rank, and that determines how many skill points and ability points you start out with. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/happy.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="^_^" border="0" alt="happy.gif" />

<b>Kieron, </b>does your starting rank *give* you skill points and ability points? I don't think so (I could be wrong, tho!) (I always start out the game with "nothing" as I like the challenge of building myself up). But perhaps that's a good thing to add - I would think you could add a number for those and it wouldn't be as difficult as adding the specific abilities and skills... ?

Thanks,
I don't really want to change my rank, because i want to hire officers first at rank 1.Then i don't have to pay them as much, wright?

So, how do i change buildsettings.h? How about reputation?

cat - yes, when you start a new game you begin with 2x your rank in skill points and 1x your rank in ability points. i think nathan put that in for build 10 or 11. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/happy.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="^_^" border="0" alt="happy.gif" />

nollekepeper - in notepad, open the file PROGRAMCharacterscharacters_init.c. find the line <b>ch.reputation = "50";</b>; you can increase or decrease your starting reputation there. i would imagine it runs from 0 - 100 but i've never experimented with it, so i don't know exactly what the numbers match up to... remember this only changes the reputation you have when you begin a new game.

below that line there are also values for each skill (leadership, fencing, sailing, etc.) which are all set to 1; you can increase those if you want too.

you can also look for the line <b>ch.wealth = 500;</b>; change this value to change the money your character starts with.

if you want to alter your starting rank, party money or ship, open PROGRAMBuildsettings.h and look for the line <b>//MAINCH START PARAMS</b>. below that line are values which you can alter.

hope all that helps <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/happy.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="^_^" border="0" alt="happy.gif" />

Kieron,
What program do i need to open buildsettings.h???

Also there's a difference between skill and abilities.I know how to do the skills but not the abilities(NK).
Thanks for your help so far

you just need windows notepad to open buildsettings.h <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/happy.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="^_^" border="0" alt="happy.gif" />

it's a bit complicated to add starting abilities. what you could do is open character_init.c, find the line <b>ch.perks.freepoints = sti(ch.rank); // NK</b> and change it to ch.perks.freepoints = sti(ch.rank) <span style='color:red'>+ 5</span> - that would give you 5 ability points more than normal when you started the game. (you can change that +5 to any number you want.)

Thanks,

This is very usefull.

I don't usually diddle with the settings like that, as I said I prefer to start out and build up - for the challenge... If you know what you're doing, your experience can build up fast (sink bigger ships, LOL!)... <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />

yeh, i'm lazy i suppose. the last time i played "properly" was a looooong time ago. now when i play it's usually to test mods out. so i start myself at level 90 with a manowar <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/happy.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="^_^" border="0" alt="happy.gif" />

The MOW I use is my second ship, used mainly for cargo hauls and firepower if I need it - I prefer my flagship to be something with a little more speed and mobility...

I use ModHelper to test, so I start out in the lugger, but I give myself a lot of cash so if I NEED to sail somewhere when testing I can buy a proper ship (with proper guns and a proper crew for protection).

but if you have a manowar, 32lbs cannons, maxed out skills, and use the `pre-reload` ability (and occasionally the quick turnaround ability), you can sink most other ships in about five seconds flat (mwahahahHA!). who needs speed or mobility? <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/happy.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="^_^" border="0" alt="happy.gif" />

no really, when playing properly i like to build my character and possessions up properly, but it is nice to play in "god mode" when testing mods!

as it says in buildsettings.h, look in ships_init.c (find this in PROGRAMShips ) <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/happy.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="^_^" border="0" alt="happy.gif" /> remember that ship names that end in "_" must be followed by + ENGLAND, + FRANCE, + SPAIN etc.

Doesn't work, now i've got no ship when i start but 100%sails and hull!
I wanted an englisch frigate so i've put SHIP_FRIGATE_ in the buildsettings.h file. Replaced lugger and england is written after it.

I also forgot to backup buildsettings.h so...
