Morale Problems with Build 11

Fiatil

Landlubber
Alright, so I have a letter of marque with Holland and England, so I decided I would go out and kill some french to make both of them happy. After sinking a few of their ships, I notice my reputation has decreased from Matey to bloke. Does this mean I have to hoist the jolly roger to attack ships for my nation? Is there any way I can sink french ships without hoisting the jolly roger or getting a reputation hit?

That seems like a relatively minor rep drop compared to what many of us get... we suspect it's an error, drastic hits like when I go from good to worst possible, and many of us suspect it's a bug related to moneylenders. Didn't borrow any gold, did you?

I, personally, think it has no damn reason at all. You may also find no matter how much you donate to the church, it won't go up. The only way to fix is keep serving your country and save a lot of damsels in distress.

I too decided to attack a few French ships, while they weren't hostile. I didn't know it hurted my reputation but I went close and fired my cannons. And immidiantly my reputation drops from Hero to Terror of the High Seas. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" /> No I did not ever loan any money!

Also requanting yourself in private with the govenors daughter is also good for your reputation. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" />

If France attitude toward you was neutral when you fired at their ship then this is the reason . You rep. will suffer 1 drop whenever you attack a ship belong to a nation that is not hoistle with you personally regardlles of the relation of the country colors you are flying . Let say you are flying France color and you attacked a spanish ship then your rep will drop 1 rank and spain will be hostile with you while the relation between france and spain will remain neutral ..

Ah, so if I'm flying the colors of a nation that is at war with the nation I'm attacking, I still get a reputation drop? Damn.

ya, which flag you fly has no effect whatsoever. the navies recognise you personally, not just your flag <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/happy.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="^_^" border="0" alt="happy.gif" />

Okay, so what's the point of flying different colors? With the exception of the pirate colors, does it make a difference at all? I haven't changed my colors yet, but I always assumed it would mean that the random vessels I see out in Map mode and such would recognize me as a ship of my flag's nation, not my <i>actual</i> nation. Would that be wrong to assume, and if so, exactly what purpose does "changing your colors" have?

sounds like you've got a mod idea then <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />

some people have had some vague ideas about what flags should or shouldn't do, but `no-one`'s come up with anything solid. currently you're only allowed to fly colours of nations you're at war with, or a pirate flags.

here's my idea: maybe you should start off with neutral colours (which i implemented maaaany builds ago, but i didn't get around to making them available <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/happy.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="^_^" border="0" alt="happy.gif" /> ). and then if you want to fly a specific nation's colours you have to ask the governor, and then your relations with other nations would change according to what nation you have aligned yourself with. and perhaps there would be a reputation drop for dropping one set of colours and raising another. if you go further and ask for a letter of marque, it should be impossible to officially change colours until you have left the service of that governor.

currently, changing colours makes no difference whatsoever, though i assume nathan had something in mind when he put `colour-changing` in (the international affairs screen is my creation, but i just put changing colours in there to continue nathan's idea). even raising pirate colours has no effect. you are only allowed to raise the colours of friendly nations (though you can raise pirate colours at any time).
