My men can't shoot for beans!

So, i've been playing AOP. Awesome game.

Few questions.

1) My men can't shoot for their lives, literally! They usually judge the distance perfectly, but are always off to the side...is this a bug, or are my men just crap?

2) How do you get your own towns?

attack a fort
"if you manage to survive" land troops and take town
when fight is over hit F2 remove one of your officers
to assingn him for govenor voila! you have your town.
It makes you enemy to france, england, spain, but not the pirates and smugglers!
So whait untill you have killed the Leader of "nnn"

So if i take a french port, it'll make me the enemy of everyone?

If the govenor tells you to take a town its allright
If you do it yourself it is piracy
If you only ransack or plunder its allrigt

wait untill later in the game to take colonys and building them up.

Take a colony and see what happens!

I also have this problem....I tried shooting the cannons manually but the shot lands nowhere near where I aimed it....also I can't find any good gunnery officers.

Maybe next game I should choose the increased cannon accuracy option.
