My review of the game

Wolfwood

Buccaneer
After some heavy-duty playing of the game, I finished my review on it. If interested, you'll find it at:

I hope you enjoy it!

It's pretty hard to cramp all the info into a short review and I actually exceeded the usual length limits quite handsomely... <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

Nice review Wolfwood. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

Overall, what made you give the game an 8 if I may ask. How would you compare AOP: CT to Sea Dogs or POTC?

Why so high or why so low rating? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />

Two answers, then:

<b>Why so high overall score?</b>

First, I must say that I judged the game on it's own merits. I realise that many of those who've played Sea Dogs and PotC may be disappointed by the fact that AoP:CT offers little more than a graphics update to the original concept (plus some new islands etc.).

But, judged on it's own merits, AoP:CT is a very enjoyable game with open-ended structure that should keep people entertained for a long while. The basic concept behind the series is very strong and appeals to me personally - well, I must admit that I just love sail ships, the late 16th and early 17 century in general, swords and basically everything else to do with the period.

<b>So, why not higher than 8, then?</b>

Well, the game has a great basic concept that carries it far, but there are several things that make it less than perfect: the fantasy style graphics in the towns, the lack of quality in character details, the slightly repetitive quests (even if the basic structure is the same, there should not be so many guys blamed for practising voodoo), the choice of characters is limited (in an open-ended game, I'd like to see the possibility to design one's own character from the very appearance). And the very major points that make it less than perfect: the UI is from the early 90s, making for a slightly awkward gameplay - click on a skill to see the crosshairs that you have to click in order to increase that skill etc.

Personally, I rate the good stuff more important than the bad stuff and thus the final degree has to be 8. 7 is simply too low and 9 would make it appear as if there weren't much to improve.

Good answers, mate. Thanks for the response. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />
