Napoleonic Mod -- Next step

This will count as part of my research. The Dutch Fleet had for all intenstive purposes been captured by the French. Thus, there really isn't a point to keeping the Dutch, Dutch, when you could replace them with a combatant. I just want to know where support lies... what people would like to play as, or fight againts.

I will be doing everything in my power to make the Americans... or Prusisians etc. realistic. The real question is how to make this an "Option." Not every player will want to play with or against the Americans (especially our Dutch players). The most obvious way of doing it would be placing a toggle in buildsettings.h. I will need to think a lot about this.

The answer is yes. Eventually we will. Soon: no. This year, probably not, maybe near the end. The task itself isn't really that hard. Its just a matter of getting the materials. You need maya4.5 and that is really hard to come by. I have maya5.0 but you absolutely need 4.5. 5.0 doesn't work with the `plug-in`.

So, the answer has to be yes... eventually we will seen new ships, but again, I must stress that it will not be soon.
 
Cant you use 3dmax or whatever its called and then mail it to someone with maya if they agree? That would be eisier methinks.
BTW Classic Frigate Duels all zee way. Britain shall rule the seas (although an ancestor of mine, Theodorick Bland, was a Virginian Cavalry Colonel partially responsible for the defeat at Brandywine Creek)

if it gets included in build 12, then there could easily be an option in the installer whether to install the new skins etc. - or if we don't use an installer for build 12, then it could be an update that the user can choose whether or not to install. just like catalina's textures in build 11. we could also supply the pack with the original files, so the user can install and revert as often much as they want.
 
I have to get a lot done before its ready. It won't make build 12. I'm still working texturing. Once that is done I need to start coding things to work properly. For that I'll need a lot of assistance from you coders.
 
If this thing is this big, starting a new game is a must anyway so we can talk about just using a bigger Nations array.
Kieron, how did that `nation-adding` bit go? IIRC you said there was BI with >6 nations?

And ideally the code should be modded to support an aribtrary number of nations anyway.
Certainly the RM does this, but I don't know about the "`engine-side`" limits vs. scriptside.
 
It would be much better if we could add nations. I've got the beginnigs on uniforms for Napoli, The US, and Algeria. I was planning on replacing the Pirates with the Barbary Corsairs, Holland with the Americans, and Portugal with the Neopolitans... if I could avoid that though, by adding more nations, I would be very pleased.

There was talk before of having Officers on islands to increase LOM, Naval career support. For example, in a certain location, call it the American Embassy, you would find the American Recruiter/ Ambassador.

But, to respond to your first sentence, Nathan, yes, it is this big. My pack containing uniforms for only Spain, France, and Britain was 12mb. It would have to be a download in parts.
 
Haha, I just read the frigate mizzen mast thread... with that many people reading O'Brian I would think a Napoleonic mod would be in high demand.
 
yep, i got three extra nations to work in the battle interface - that's fairly easy and doesn't require a restart - but i didn't add them as 'full' nations (i.e. as part of the relations array), which would definitely require a restart... unless there was a function to 'convert' the old `nation-relations` arrays into the new ones when you press the I key?
 
Three natinos would be excellent. With this news I will go full ahead into making Barbary Corsairs... one of the main problems being ships. I've got a 20 and a 24 gun dhou, but they were really trade vessels, not war vessels.

If I could edit the number of locators to the Xebec I would be set. A 16, 28, and 36 gun Xebec would answer nicely.

What nations were you planning on adding (apart from Catalonia). I would help you make uniforms and people, etc... if you were so inclined.
 
With Barbary corsairs, I'd like to see some `ARAB-type` clothing for characters. That would be in tune with the "nation"... That would mean MODELING them...

WHERE are the modelers? We used to have no END of modelers and no coders. Not that I'm complaining about the coders, but it would be nice to have a balance. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />
 
You are right in saying we are short models. However, I have made a list of models that, with some clever paint jobs, could pass as Arabs:

Blackman
Bocman
Bocman1
Fatman
Korsar
Man2
Man6_1
Sailor6
Dutch Soldiers

Of course, I've only got pictures in my head at this point. If you look at their models in the GM viewer... especially without the textures, you can see what I mean.
 
Does this mean there would be a bigger map and more islands in the archipelago? I'd like to see some new islands maybe a Cornish Caribbean Island Hahahar me hansomes! (LOL) Pasties and Cider and clotted cream teas. Ha HA HA! maybe a Tin mine and some fishermen, lol and then of course you could have a mod of the Isles of Scilly too, with the locals trying to lure ships onto the rock so they can loot the wrecks lol!

And I should <b>not</b> be volunteering for this, but I'd love to texture these. I am MUCH TOO BUSY with my Sneaky Trader mod, which I think will not make it to the next build release, but I REALLY shouldn't volunteer...

By all means, paint away. I've got more than enough on my plate to keep me busy for a long time. Something I was thinking about earlier this afternoon... what about a Barbary marriage mod? Making sailors would be hard enough but I could kinda see how the Danielle model coudl be made into a haram / belly dancer type of girl... not exactly Algerian... but exotic. I'm afraid exotic is the best were going to get with what we have at the moment.

I'm rambling. Please, feel free. I would be very much obliged, infact.
