I enjoyed being knighted, then becomming a baron... didn't know it went so far beyond the two.

Imagine, a `knight-pirate`. Or `pirate-knight`...

Hey, Fred Bob! You forgot capitan between commander and commodore.

I reached Visicount once, a good fleet of manowars and a level 25 character helps. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

After reading through various histories of noble titles in western Europe, I decided to make some changes for my own game. Namely, the removal of "Knight" as a military/noble rank. Its existence always bothered me, simply because seeing my character referred to as "Knight `So-and`-So" made no sense. So, I removed it, dropped each successive title down a notch, and added the title of "Duke" as the pinnacle of achievement. I know that dukedom in British terms is applied specifically to the Prince of Wales and the Queen herself (as the Duke and Duchess of Cornwall and Lancaster, respectively), but for my own sake, I let that slide. Here are my 'revised' ranks:

<b>England:</b>
Midshipman
Lieutenant
Commander
Captain
Commodore
`Vice-Admiral`
Admiral
Baron
Viscount
Earl
Marquess
Duke

<b>France:</b>
Enseigne
Lieutenant
Cpt. de Fregate
Cpt. de Vaisseau
`Contre-Amirale`
`Vice-Amirale`
Amirale

Baron
Viscomte
Comte
Marquis
Duc

<b>Spain:</b>
Teniente
Cpt. de Corbeta
Cpt. de Fragata
Cpt. de Navío
Contralmirante
Vicealmirante
Almirante
Barón
Visconde
Conde
Marqués
Duque

<b>Holland:</b>
Adelborst
Luitenant
`Kapitein-Luitenant`
Kapitein ter Zee
Schout bij Nacht
`Vice-Admiraal`
`Luitenant-Admiraal`
Baron
Burggraaf
Graaf
Markgraaf
Hertog

<b>Portugal:</b>
Seg.-Tenente
Prim.-Tenente
Cpt. de Fragata
Cpt. de Mar
`Contra-Almirante`
`Vice-Almirante`
Almirante
Barao
Vizconde
Conde
Marquez
Duque

One other thing gets under my skin: the titles of each island's respective governer. "Majesty" has usually been reserved for titles of <i>royalty,</i> not nobility. I've considered changing the instances of "Majesty" with a lesser honorific, like "Excellency" or "Honor," befitting something closer to a lesser noble or mayor.

iamthejarha: LOL.
That was the original way the ranks went in fact. They then got bumped down one for build, um, something.
Hmm. Maybe add baronet? (what _is_ the fem. of baronet?)

But, that's what notepad is there for. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

Also, re: majesty. I probably have typo or grammar problems there or something; my intention was since this was really only the dawn of nationhood to rather than say take service with France, say take service with His Most Christian Majesty.
(and also so I could play around with RM's support for `king-honorifics`. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" /> )
The governor himself is referred to as excellency.

Or at least that was the intent. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/oops3.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":eek:ops2" border="0" alt="oops3.gif" />

Heh, seriously? I had no idea--build 11 is my first experience with POTC mods. And I wasn't aware about the titles--knowing that, I'll switch them back, since it makes sense now. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

That's what notepad's for though, so you can have everything _just_ the way you like it. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />
