I played POTC without any mods and now got AOPCT and am hugely disappointed. While there are several improvements, it seems like they made it worse and more boring:

-swordfights are so much worse
-cannon fights look pretty bad
-towns are tiny and nobody has anything to say
-interface got worse
-no more adventuring around the islands and dungeons

am I missing something? Why did they make the game worse instead of better?

also I want to know all the things that mods/builds add/change in POTC and AOPCT, is there a list of all changes? And are there some amazing mods being planned for AOPCT or should I sell it off asap?

There are numerous modders working on all kinds of things for AOP:CT. There are several texture artists doing new skins for the various faction, there is CyberOps's SuperMod. I'm working on a variety of new ship model, Red Jack is doing a cleanup of the NPC speech and a number of other interesting enhancements.

There is also supposed to be a new patch out anytime now, as well as several russian mods that are in the works.

For right now I recommend the Build 13 for POTC, you can get it on this website. I can't begin to tell you all the additions and improvements from the stock game, it would take forever, just give it a try. AOP is alot newer, but there will be some great stuff coming out for it in the future, you'll just have to be patient. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

So basically what will be more fun AOP:CT with all the mods or POTC with all the mods? What advantage does AOP:CT have over POTC?
<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
<img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/whistling.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":wp" border="0" alt="whistling.gif" /> AOP has no Advantage at all! PotC does not Crash has a story to follow, very good
graphics and with the work the modding community put into it...awsome!!!
AOP on the other hand is the most buggy and crappy game I've ever come accross!
Even with the Supermod it's not very good as it has no story or only half of one and the game
becomes booooring very quickly! I've played PotC on and off since it came on the market
in 2003, was not very good to start with, but has improved greatly. Even the Stockgame has
a story to follow which ofcourse AOP has not...........and beware of STARFORCE!!!!!!!!! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/whippa.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":whipa" border="0" alt="whippa.gif" />
<img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/duel_pa.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":ixi" border="0" alt="duel_pa.gif" />

Current plans for mods do include extensive expansion of the quests and things you can do in the game. Basically almost anything thats been done for PotC, is pretty well going to get done for AOP.

The upside of using AOP would be somewhat more advanced graphics, specifically with regards to lighting and atmospheric effects. Other than that, both games use the same basic engine, with AOP having the edge only because it is a somewhat updated version of the engine.

So you understand the fine point I am making here, PotC uses the Storm 2.0 engine, AOP the Storm 2.5 engine and there is word that Akella's next couple of releases will be using Storm 3.0.

You realy think they will sell another game after the AOP disaster??????
IT BETTER BE GOOD!!!!!!!!!! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/whippa.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":whipa" border="0" alt="whippa.gif" />

Nosie: Thats just it, if you have a look at the info about Captain Blood. That one is being developed using Storm 3.0. PT Boats is being done using Storm 2.5. The mod/new game I mentioned in another post is being developed by AlexusB, his crew and Akella using the Storm 2.5.

There are also a few other games Akella has lined up using the storm engine as well.

That is their main thing. And honestly, thus far its been the best sea sim engine around.

I just get the feeling that CyberOps's Pirate Sim is going to blow everything else out of the water. **grins evilly**

OMG
this implies that you are still [self censored] enough to spend money on games by Akella.

Think clearly.
they have abandoned the public trust with AOP

They will never get our money again
Unless
10 years after publishing
the game still gets great reviews.

anything less

and we are giving money to somebody
who has previously taken cash from
us using false pretenses.

what do you guys think of this game: <a href="http://www.gamespot.com/pc/action/tortuga/index.html" target="_blank">http://www.gamespot.com/pc/action/tortuga/index.html</a>

Am I able to capture towns/colonies in POTC with mods?

<!--QuoteBegin-"your link"+--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE("your link")</div><div class='quotemain'><!--QuoteEBegin-->this patch fixes a copy protection error that was causing problems with Windows XP and Service Pack 2<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->

um

err

can you say

big mistake

RLB: Actually, I just try to keep track of what Akella is doing, simply because I've appreciated what they've done over the years.

This does not mean I'm going to purchase any of the newer games they are doing for any certainty. In fact, by knowing what they are working on, it may give me a chance to avoid things that I would otherwise have no clue they were involved with.

Some examples of games that a lot of folks don't even realize Akella is/was a part of:

Age of Sails
Age of Sails 2/Privateers Bounty
Sabotain

Just to name a few of them.

Tortuga looks really cool, one thing about Ascaron, is they seem to do alot of testing on their games and are generally released bugfree. Which would be very nice for a change. Unfortunately, the games I have from them don't allow for much modding, though.

I I like POTC, and AOP will eventually be good, too! I think with the number of bugs that
is was released too soon.

I have a problem with the color and movement of the ocean. I also can't bring up the paper map to see where mission islands are located. Can anyone tell me how to open the map?

Help!!!!!!!!!!!

The map should pop up pressing M-button, move the mouse around and right-click over colonies to get info.
