Need real good Spyglass

seaturtle

Landlubber
I've about 70 real time hours in this game but still only at 9Th level playing "Ian Stance" as a Dutch Trader. I have obtained the "Good" spyglass which is plain lousy. Have been looking every store and every Vendor that I come apon. Its been a loooong time since I've had this <u>eyesore</u>, How long does it take to get a better one? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/keith.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":keith" border="0" alt="keith.gif" />

P.S. have the newest DVD release for the UK/USA ver. 1.3.0 if that makes a difference.

It's level-dependent, so you'll just have to be patient. There's an exclusive spyglass in the City of Abandoned Ships, but you won't be ready for that quest for quite a while yet.

I'm doing the same thing, dutch trader and ian guy.
You can get better stuff earlier if you fight a lot, that's my experience. The criminals in the jungles seem to have better items than the traders...

Yes there is. The exclusive spyglass allows you to see what type of ammo a ship is using. This is tremendously helpful in fighting large ship with hit and run tactics, since if you lurk at the edge of their range they will swap to cannonballs. Swapping ammo types requires a complete reload, rendering the ship defenceless long enough for you to swoop in, fire your guns, and retreat back to safety again.
Personally I'd love to have an even better spyglass showing loading status. I wonder if it could be modded in...

Thanks guys,
I'll just keep wiping those scratched lenses ( at least they are around the edges ) keep stumbling on my sword, kicking rats in the hold, keep getting thrown out of brothels, whipped by drunks in the tavern, thrown out of church for trying to donate a whores money.
But I'll never give up my hot rod "Corvette" which will turn on a dime ( and give you change yet ) capable of up to 20 knots ( really 19.80 knots but I can't navigate that fast yet ) ,32/32 cannons, 4022/4022 hull. Never been overtaken yet but the game is still young.

Got my ship fixed up at the Bermudes pirate settlement shipyard. ( that cost some BIG loot ) <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/pirate_plain.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p3" border="0" alt="pirate_plain.gif" />

<img src="http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y116/oleman/HotRodCorvette.jpg" border="0" class="linked-image" />

But I still need a better than "good" <b></b>spyglass<b></b>. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/keith.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":keith" border="0" alt="keith.gif" /> <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/thpirateshipff.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":piratesahoy!" border="0" alt="thpirateshipff.gif" /> Now excuse me Mateys, I've to hoist the Jolly Roger. Gotta pay the bills as trading ain't getting it.

Oh I think you'll give her up gladly....

...when you get this one:

<img src="http://img6.imageshack.us/img6/810/wardog.jpg" border="0" class="linked-image" />

HUBBA HUBBA, you better believe it. But as I said in above post, the game is still young.

Question: I noticed that your speed and maneuverability rateing is backwards ( or so it seems? ). How can you sail faster and maneuver faster than the ship is capeable off? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dunno.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shrug" border="0" alt="dunno.gif" />

100 navigation skill and all the navigation perks. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/razz.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":razz" border="0" alt="razz.gif" />
I <i>think</i> navigation skill is simply a percentage of how fast the ship goes, if you have navigation 50 it will go at most half as fast as it is capable of. When you hit 100 it goes as fast as it can... but then you you also have the perks, which give you additional speed bonuses, bringing the total above the maximum.

Edit: Just checked it, and yep, I was right. A completely empty ship with a captain who has 100 navigation but no navigation perks will go exactly as fast as it is capable of.

OK, thank you. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/cheers.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="cheers.gif" />

Not for me because the enemies pretty much fight with no IQ. Whenever I engage them head to head, they seem desperate everytime to shoot even when I just slightly enter their shooting range, which inflicts very small amount of damage. So that's when i swoop in to give them a taste of their own medicine. I've never really taken into account the enemies' stats.

On what level did you get this one? Their stats are much superior to mine. I have loaded over and over again but the one I got is pretty much the best deal for my level.

It's a unique ship with stats far better than any regular corvette can have, plus I have it fully upgraded. You get it at the end of the COAS/Kill the Beggars quest, but you need to be a fairly high level to have a chance of completing that.

Yes, i know about dog of war. I've finished the coas quest. What i was pointing out is the huge statistical difference to that of mine.

Take her to the Pirate settlement shipyard at Bermuda, for quite the sum ( money + store goods ) the Yard worker will upgrade it for you.

Actually thats exactly what I translated it to when I did my translation of the russian copy of the game, Thomas. There are lots of things that I translated correctly that is all screwed up in the release of the game...

Like calling the CREW a TEAM.

Lots of names that I've noticed that don't seem to have been translated quite right and a few other oddities like the Gentlemen of Luck thing we've discuseed in another thread.
