New Capture Colony Mod anyone Interested?

Been Looking at C programming and the Basic Lay out of How Potc is programmed.. Going to try and start
Building a capture colony mod For the Game. Anyone that is interested and wants to help with the Project will be welcomed and appreciated!!! I dont know how many of you feel the way i do about having a mod like this for the game. I think its a must. If we are going to stay on course with Potc and Not switch over to AOP. CCC's
building mod has greatly enhanced the game. I think this will too

Somebody, I believe Johannes Scherjon, was already working on making a town you can build yourself. I don't think he's finished the mod though.

The easiest way to make a town that you build yourself is to simply make the locations in the PROGRAM\Locations\init files, but make the location locked so you can't enter. Then, once you pay an amount of money, the location is unlocked and you have your own town. This way of doing it can, of course, be finetuned, so you have to hire an architect and have to provide him with planks, gold, bricks, etc. It would also be nice to choose who you want to be the governor, fort commander, innkeeper, etc. If you make a town for the player, you should set it to NATHANIEL_NATION, which is the player's own nation.

That sounds really good... I hope he is succesful in it that would be a great mod for the game as well.

I was wondering if theren is a size limit to the map I read something to that degree in another thread.

I have a question: Ingame NATHANIEL_NATION IS the players Own Nation? If thats the case then you could be able to take exsisting towns and use them for your own. But controling the other aspects of the town might be dificult to do. Looking at CCC's building mod as an example. You Can Control those buildings to a Point but the options are limited. I Guess someone would have to come up with a whole new set dialogs to make it work. U could Use the characters already in game i would like to think. without adding new characters.
 
I have working on it, yeah the town is ready..
only the dialogs stuff and locking doors.. I dont understand that so I stoped until I know how, the thing whats much better that you can capture a colony (like oxbay..falaise de fleur) and make it to your own, you have to defent it against enemy fleets/soldiers. it is possible only very hard to mod.
Also I want to help who need help with that. But I havnt much experience but really much time so..<img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" />

Why not make it a quest you have to do 1st then you get it after, bit like in sea dog's.

I dont want to make it a quest. I dont like the quest aspect of the game as it is. I prefer an open ended
Game where i can do as i please... I would also like to take a look at the files for seadogs to compare them
with what i am trying to do. The hardest part will be tying into ? The interface. I have not really decided which road to go down yet. I am thinking about trying to tie it into the Battle Interface. Which to me that seems logical.. whether Practical or not we shall see

What dialogs are you tring to do? I did a few of them a while back with limited success I might be able to take a crack at it.

I'm the same in this retrospect, I prefer to either buy or capture a colony without having to do some quest to get control of it.

Now after thinking about it the buying a colony is beginning to intrigue me... I guess either or it still going to be difficult either way to mod it. But am going to work on it
 
This colony thing could make the game a lot more versatile. I've always wondered why on earth does the main character NOT have a permanent residence besides his ship.
 
I agree, there was a mod similar to this in Sea Dogs. The name of that particular addition was called Port Royale. It's not connected with the game of the same name.

Ahoy thar <b>paka35</b>, be you around maybe with an update, this would be a really great mod tew be sure, but haven't heard any more about it....how is it going?
 
Hi all Here is a brief update.. since the 4th of july hit i havent had much time to work with it much. Been comparing and looking at files mostly. Trying to find the links. Sorry but i am afraid this is going to be a slow process.

The SLiB Mod has this feature, however the programming is in their dll files and not accessable.

first you need to know what you want to do in your own town,
defent against (sea) attacks,
and some specific missions?
Then you need to make those dialogs,
then you need to make the town itself just copy and add some jungle to
a island, and you need that its locked until you buy it.
 
I would personally start by building the town. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />
