New Horizons: Uncharted Waters 2

Heh, yes indeed! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" /> Sir Christopher, nice to see ya back online, missed ya these last few days. Hope all is well!

I used ZSnes to play Uncharted Waters 2: New Horizons, and everything worked pretty well. Just be sure to get the newest version of the emulator (Windows version, not DOS one) and you should be fine. I talked about DOSBox earlier because that one's useful for running the PC version of the game in modern computers. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

I actually find SNES version is better than PC. Never mind about the graphics but I would rather control the game using one single joypad than using keyboard & mouse.

Thanks, Akubi, I'm getting one in a few days, so I guess I'll find out for myself... <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/onya.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="onya.gif" />

Ha, just got it today, popped it into the old SNES to have a look...

Conversely, I like the gameplay on the PC MUCH better - easier to control, better graphics, faster, and MUCH better music. Playing at Ali, the music in Istanbul gave me a headache after about five minutes! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sick.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":eww" border="0" alt="sick.gif" /> <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" /> <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tongue.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":blah:" border="0" alt="tongue.gif" />

I did like the way you would access the different files in the SNES version, flipping the various screens to get to the various files. I haven't done it in a while, but I bet I could pick it up again pretty quick.

In the PC game, in the sea battles, did it have the same kind of set up with the arrow paths for manuvers that your ship was capable of doing?

<img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_eek.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="icon_eek.gif" /> Gads... I don't recall... <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" /> I'll have to look. I think so, although that was the way it was in UW for Nintendo so I could be mixing the two memories...

AhhhHEM! More rum here, please... <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/beer2.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":beer" border="0" alt="beer2.gif" /> Thank you! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

I remember some strong disagreement on my part of paths my ship was capable of completing or not, but the game was indifferent to me shouting,"You're cheating!" at it.

I was, and still am, a big fan of singling out the enemy flagship and boarding so I could basically do a shopping trip through the captured enemy fleet.

Wouldn't that be another interesting thing to add to POTC, if you take the flagship then the accompanying ships surrender as well? Or try to escape, I don't know how many times my sea battles turned into a race to see who could either get out of range, or keep the other guy from escaping. UWNH had some really cool and well thought out features in it. We also need a "full broadside" video for POTC like the one in UWNH, I used to live for that!
<img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/onya.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="onya.gif" />

Well. there IS that infamous "Oxbay 1630" vid <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" /> which has a brief instant of the hatches over the cannon ports opening up and a broadside being fired... Nice moment, the best part of the movie, IMO...

Yeah all versions have the arrows in ship combat to the bet of my knowledge.

The only thing the Snes version is good for, is for playing in bed <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/onya.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="onya.gif" /> and as opposed to sitting at a computer with a stiff back, that counts for alot.

Heh, yes, Captain Yellowbeard, I thoroughly agree with THAT! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />

Although at the moment if I was to go lie in bed to play Nintendo, I'd put in the N64 version of Super Mario Kart. Lordie, but that is a sillyass game, and oh so funnnnn!!! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" /> <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/w00t.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":woot" border="0" alt="w00t.gif" /> <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />

I loved New Horizons too. I've no idea how many times i've played... must be 10 over!

Anyway, apparently Koei is coming out with a new version, Uncharted Waters Online. It's supposed to be out soon... there's no official site, though, but there are some screenshots <a href="http://pc.ign.com/objects/676/676995.html" target="_blank">here</a>. Even if it is released soon, the US version will take some time. But i think it's going to be interesting <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

*edit* whoops... just saw the other thread about UW Online at the bottom of the page <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/oops3.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":eek:ops2" border="0" alt="oops3.gif" />

I saw a preview of UWO, at E3 last year, and WOW, it looked pretty impressive. I am curious about it, even tho I am no online gamer... If they ever do get the English version going, I hope it won't be too expensive...

Yeah, my sentiments exacly. Though, i think, by the time it is out, i won't be able to do much gaming anymore... working and stuff. I'm making full use of what time i have left before i hit the working world...

Is anyone here still playing this game? I have the SNES version that I bought a million years ago and didn't know unitl recently that there was a PC version of this game.

I have three SNES carts and could not care less how much money I am offered. I will get batteries installed no matter what it cost when the carts die . I own TWO SNES consoles in case one ever breaks.

Would you be suprised to know I still play it ? And have been since 1994. I also have both the SNES version and nes version of the Games first version . I have not ever really enjoyed it as much as UWNH...the game is deep and addictive and like someone says the broadside vid ...is something to live for ..lol....also the day you get your stats high enough to one shot kill a flag ..

I have never had any luck getting the PC version to run on my PC ..I have downloaded it ..I can't figure out DOS box to save my life...so unless there is a way to run the PC version without DOS BOX ...I guess I never will.
The emulated version is nice to have for when my batteries go dead and I am waiting for my carts back...this game has thousands of hours of my time in it..I used to actually keep logs..and still saved them for the Different games and Characters..no game ever played the same and I still occasionally find a suprise.

The game is just once in a life time great .

Why it never had a followup with even PSone graphics is beyond my ken .

VoC online is the closest I have come to playing a similar game . Close within a mile or so . I had hopes That sids Pirates would be the one ..lol....Dance ? uhh nope.......Aop ...Close but your limited the world is not your oyster.

So I wait for something to even come close.

I have played the game off and on since I got it in '94 also. It was a great game, as was its predecessor, Uncharted Waters. A game like that updated with better graphics would be a dream come true and I was surprised when I heard that they made it for the pc but since it is DOS I guess I'm out of luck, although I have an older PC with windows 98 on it so perhaps it would work on that.

Well, there is a website and forum about the PC version. It should have some answers. I think the PC version just runs on DOS.

sorry to resurrect this topic but, i must say this game is awesome, i played it 4 days ago, and the game is HUGE. that's why i say game industry going downfall. i guess its one of the reasons no one dare to touch sea games now, since it would be ALMOST impossible to make a game like this. (that's why i don't care for graphic at all, almost every old games are better.)
if anyone want to see how the game work you can use emulators and download its rom. its just 2 megabyte.
i wonder how i missed this for such a long time.

edit: all of the above mean, this is the least i expect from you guys. who made such a amazing mod, i seriously believe you can, so get back to work :p
