New Ships in the Build Mod

hi,

i saw today one of the new ships in the build for sale (don´t remember where) that had the following stats:

Bermuda Sloop
Class: 5
max men: 247
hull: 3226
speed: 19,31
turn: 53,24
cargo: 1800
guns: 10
caliber: 32

and that ship was for sale at a normal price for class 5 ships.
i just wondered if this is realy intended?!
i mean, the ship is cheap and you can get it very soon because it´s class 5 but it has the stats of a Class 2 ship (like a frigate or corvette) <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/piratesing.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shock" border="0" alt="piratesing.gif" />

I think that ship needs turning down. The stats indeed are quite overdone. If anyone can come up with better balanced stats, please do so!
 
yeah, youre both right... i think that the stats should be more like this:

Bermuda Sloop
Class: 5
max men: 80
hull: 1266
speed: 16,31
turn: 43,24
cargo: 850
guns: 12
caliber: 9

that seems a bit more evenhanded to me... I gave it two more cannons, but i turned down some of the other stats... I'm not a modder, but i think that you can change the stats of the ships in the \PROGRAM\ships\ships_init.c file... try it and see what happens... I never use the bermuda sloop anyway... and since i haven't met one i dont feel the need to change the stats for it...

The bermudasloop has also <b>2 guns </b>to much --> i only count 8 (F/B/L/R >> 1/1/3/3) instead of 10 guns

The ship model "bermsloop163.gm" actually has 10 cannon locators so the ships_init.c entry is correct.

Yes but it <b> should only have 8 </b>instead of 10! The ship has only 1 cannon each bow and stern + 3 cannon each broadside = 8 <b>not</b> 10!

No, it should have what the modeler intended!
Cannon Locators determine how many cannons actually fire and the modeler set 10 in the model.

It may be that he only modeled 8 large cannon instead of 10 to keep the polygon count down.
Consider the two missing cannon as a combination of all of the smaller ones.
 
yes the are only 8 guns i can see on the ship! but i don´t think it´s ok, that i see 10 guns shooting?! that looks a little bit weird! i think cause the extra guns are in the area of the bow gun, he might tried to simulate that the bow gun can be rotated? but this i think should be done with a wider field of "refShip.Cannons.Borts.cannonf.FireZone" of the bow gun in the ships_init.c ?!

This is not going to turn into a heated discussion, is it? I'll keep it as-is. I suppose it's better to leave it as the modeler intended than to change the file. It might upset the modeler and cause heated discussions. It's not broken anyway, is it?

Perhaps someone should notify Captain Augast about this? Maybe it was a mistake. But I don't think so... <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />
 
Clearly, <i>Captain Augast</i> intended bermudasloop to have only 8 cannons, but later changed his mind and added "gatling" cannon at the front. It's certainly... weird. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

(And it's not like stock ships doesn't have similiar problems. Frigates and Galleons, for example, have less cannon locators than actual cannons <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" /> )

I love the Bermuda Sloop!!! Very cool man!
You can even look into the back window and see
the furnisher!
So if you don't like it, use another one!!!!!
