New skin on Nigel model (`Will-2`)

Thanks Cat I was hoping to do that as a last resort but it looks like that is my destiny as Nathankell just burst my balloon, destroyed my dreams, and crushed all hope. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/urgh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":urgh" border="0" alt="urgh.gif" /> That’s exactly what I was hoping to do but had a feeling that if it was that easy some one would have surly have already done it. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yes" border="0" alt="yes.gif" /> But I will follow your instructions and get to work <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/whippa.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":whipa" border="0" alt="whippa.gif" /> lucky for me I am on vacation next week. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" /> Nathankell thanks <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" /> I was just wondering how I was going to explain to Cat what I was after but you hit the nail on the head.

Sorry about the dreams bit. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="icon_wink.gif" />
To make life easier, I believe Verruckt has some blank template portrait backings...(http://www.robotsdontbleed.com/tutorials/portraits.htm but the pics are down it seems)

<img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mybad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":facepalm" border="0" alt="mybad.gif" /> I would never have thought to do it that way, I guess, as it never occurred to me! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" /> <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />

It's not as difficult as it might seem, Seth, Photoshop makes it easy. I just love that program... You should be fine... <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/onya.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="onya.gif" />

<img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/hi.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":gday" border="0" alt="hi.gif" /> Cat

When you use GMView does your model have texture on it (skin)? When I use it I only get a dark silhouette with a gray background. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad.gif" />

That's meant to be that way, I think... Don't you have to "apply" the skin to the image? I never done it, just speaking my mind... <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" />

<b>Seth, </b>when you open up a model in GMView, you select it from the top directory menu (<b>Select GM File</b>). When you have the proper model selected it does not have a skin because you have to select a skin directory - so you need to use the middle menu (<b>Select TX Directory</b>) to find the textures directory. Once you find the proper directory for your model, then you have to go down to the bottm right - there are buttons... Hit the "RELOAD GM" button, and you should see the skin applied to the model. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />

Cat

I am using the gm_view.exe that I got from the forums here. On the top I have it c:program filesBethesda softworkspotc build 12resourcemodlescharaterstowngirl7.gm and the middle one at c:program filesBethesda softworksresourcetexturescharacterstowngirl.tga.tx and when I hit the reload gm button the image flashes and stays the same?<img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/urgh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":urgh" border="0" alt="urgh.gif" />

Hi seth <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/hi.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":gday" border="0" alt="hi.gif" />
The gm file and the tx file have to match.
If you are looking at the towngirl7 model, then you have to select the
Towngirl7.tga.tx texture file (not towngirl.tga.tx)

<img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mybad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":facepalm" border="0" alt="mybad.gif" /> Sorry that’s a typo they match

It does it with every one I choose Danielle, Will, it does not matter what I slect they all do the same thing.

Hummm, no clue why that doesn't work, you seem to be in the correct directory - try this, make sure the exact model is highlighted, and don't highlight the exact skin, just the directory that it is in. THEN hit the Reload GM button. Hopefully that'll do it! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/onya.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="onya.gif" />

Well I tried that and then deleted the gm viewer and reinstalled it and it still does not work here is a screen print. I am wondering if it is the materials that does not match the gm file that is causing it?

<img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mybad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":facepalm" border="0" alt="mybad.gif" /> OH! I see it!!! Your TEXTURE needs to be .tga.tx - not .tga! You need to convert the file to a .tx file. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" /> It should work, then! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/onya.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="onya.gif" />

It says it is a .tga.tx file I don't know why it shows up as .tga in the lower window and the text converter says it is a tga.tx file here is a better screen shot<a href="http://img92.exs.cx/my.php?loc=img92&image=UO13.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://img92.exs.cx/img92/3592/UO13.th.jpg" border="0" class="linked-image" /></a>

Well, the only other thing I can think of is that you have your gamefile called "POTC BUILD 12" instead of "Pirates of the Caribbean", and somehow this makes a difference ? That doesn't make sense, but it's the only other thing I can see from that pic that is different from mine.

(btw, the .tga thing shows up on mine, too)

Did you alter the .gm file at all?

The same happens to me to. But only for characterfiles. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />

<img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/hi.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":gday" border="0" alt="hi.gif" /> Cat

Also I am using windows xph with sp2 if it makes a difference.

Well, for the most part your system is a bit beefier than mine, and I can't for the life of me figure out WHY you can't get those skins to apply themselves to the model in GMView. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" /> Sorry. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/oops3.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":eek:ops2" border="0" alt="oops3.gif" />

I found an old reference here that mentioned that this utility did not work with their ATI vid card, and someone else who said that it disabled his DX... <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" /> Perhaps you'll just have to live with the fact that you can't use it. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad.gif" />
