This topic is a question: what should I do with this? SImply just send it to pirate_kk with its gms, and textures, or rename it to Brig-Sloop, (Its currently running as the Shnyava1...) or make a new, different texture for it, etc. This little ship is attented to be the ingame version of the Master & Commandeer films Captain, Jack Aubrey's first command, in the book version: The HMS Sophie, a brig rigged sloop, or minibrig. With 14 guns, not more than 200 tons, (huh...) and surprisely, may come from its originally Spanish build, a small quarter-deck, unlikely in her class. under the quarter deck there was a very small captains cabin also.

<b>What I modified in the stock build 13 shnyava1 : </b>

- I added a rope between the last sails two holding yards, (Feeled more realistic to have something, that connects them ) and onto that rope I added a big flag, just like in the new corvette versions in build 13.

- Moved the fence of the quarter deck mutch higher (at the original version, the fence was like mutch lower than knee height... Not too useful to hold a man onboard..)

-Made the last sails yards start higher, so at least theres enough room for one standing man on the quarter-deck. In the original rigging, the last sail's lower yard was in knee-height for anyone, who gets up to the helm wheel position. (quarter-deck) By the way, I think, it looks more balanced with the last sail hanging higher.

-Added a small steering weel to the quarter deck (imported from lugger vml, resized, modified the model a bit, and modified the texture) 'Cause the Sophie had one,

-Added a ship bell to between the first mast, and the lifeboat (imported from lugger vml, resized, modified the model a bit, and modified the texture)

Thats it for now. The model uses its own named two textures, a modified (and reduced size) lugger VML, and a copy of the stock Shnyava1 texture.

Why I stopped to modify it to remake the Sophie:
First of all, Im too lazy. After I reinstalled, restarted the game, my first command was a luggerVML, really liked that. AFter that I choosed a Shnyava1 to command. Then I felt I want to make her more special. But, if Im going to reach my new ship level, I think, a proper sized brig, the Sophie dream will sure going to stop, and Im going to modify the best brig I found.

<b>So, things that make this "Minibrig", or "Sloop-Brig" different from Post-Captain Jack Aubrey's Sophie: </b>
(Or from its original ship, that the author copied, the HMS Speedy Sloop-Brig, commanded by:
<a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thomas_Cochrane" target="_blank"><!--coloro:#FF0000--><span style="color:#FF0000"><!--/coloro--><u>Thomas Alexander Cochrane</u><!--colorc--></span><!--/colorc--></a>)

-Compare to its miniature dimensions in lenght, the Shnyava1 have VERY LARGE tonnage.
The Sophie was not more than a 200 tons. But had slight bigger physical dimensions... Lenght, beam, etc.

-The sophie had 14 4 pounder guns. This ship has 20 9 pounders. Deleting some guns, or relocate them will cost me almost a day, and I want to play <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" /> <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" /> to reach another ship legally. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" />

-The Sophie was a 54 men vessel, maximum crew: around 90. I cant see how can the game stuff that lot of sailors into this little Brig-sloop, but this has too mutch. more than 100....

So, thats it. I need some suggestions, what to modify, do it need a different texture from stock shnyava1, how to send it to pirate_kk, and to exactly WHERE to send it? To his email??

Please, comment this topic. I dont know in what state I need to send it to Pirate_kk, do it need a new ship entry, do I just send it as gm files and textures, and still need your opinion about the unique texture: does it needed, or not. I know, its *just* a class 4 ship, but still an addition to the game. All opinions, and suggestions welcomed.

isn't it a bit incovenient that the wheel is in front of the entrance to the quarter-deck?

Not at all. Its a very dwarfish vessel, as it written in the novel. Even in the Surprise, the steering mechanism is integrated, and can be seen <i>inside</i> the quarter deck. And thats a frigate class... Imagine this, a 4th class ship which still has a quarter deck, and a wheel, as did the historical HMS Speedy, that how mutch space can be left inside the cabin. See, as here at the drawing:

<img src="http://www.freeweb.hu/varjatek/publish/sloop-brig.JPG" border="0" class="linked-image" />

The steering mechanism was exactly like this, in many many vessels. The end of the steer was at the roof, and the two ropes came from the wheel are dragged it to left, or right, which moved the whole steer. As it was in the novel: noone could stand inside the captains cabin, must bend his back, or knees. So merely they just ""squeezed in" and took a seat. I admit it looks weird, a little ship like this, with a quarter deck, but alot of sail fishingships built like this way, the wheel in right top of the quarterdeck. But I try to find some blueprints about very little two masted vessels with a wheel- to see which is mroe historically correct for a brig rigged sloop of war of spanish built.

that's a VERY primitive drawing. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="icon_wink.gif" /> just a red cross.

Give at least 5 min to produce a drawing, dangit! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" /> NOW you can see it.... phewh, sailors these days....

prfffffffft...BWAHAHA! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/24.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":rofl" border="0" alt="24.gif" />

sorry, i know how hard it is to quickly draw something with paint. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/blush.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":eek:ops" border="0" alt="blush.gif" /> on second look, it's pretty good. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

snigger....

WHAHAHAHAHAHA! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />

Dangit. On second hand: why the **** I need to publish anything? If not a single mate can tell me how I need to send it to KK, or start an able minded conversion about what do modify, then it should not needed- Do it? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" />

As we dont need the detailed corvette, or any ship ready, or coming right up.

Or Is it just me? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" />

Before you get to sending your ship, how many textures does it use? Three, right? Modified <i>luggerVML</i>, modified <i>Shnyava1</i>, and stock <i>deck</i>, right?

I'm asking because personally I'd use textures from <i>deck</i> to texture wheel, lifeboat and bell, and made further modification to the <i>Shnyava1</i> (to modify those rear windows, for example).

Ok, from what I've gathered, a quarterdecked brig or sloop is flush decked, meaning that there is a single deck above the waterline, but in the bow and stern, another deck has been created which makes a cabin and forecastle. So really, the tiller could be situated under the single deck at the head of the deck below the waterline and have its rigging run through the floor, up against the bulkhead that seals off the cabin, and up to the wheel on the quarterdeck above.

<img src="http://i67.photobucket.com/albums/h300/_Commodore_John_Paul_Jones/zsteeragebrig.jpg" border="0" class="linked-image" />

I know it sounds sorta jumbled up, but see the pic? Its logic.

Although, unless he made a cabin, the location of the tiller is rather moot, isn't it? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

I think the best is if you just put the model up on the ftp, so that people who want the model to modify some textures by themselves could do what they want (I really want to give this thing a Royal Navy scheme, and a French colour scheme!)

So just the whole map with the model on the ftp, in .zip or rar. format

So, basically, the placing of the wheel isnt wrong as I figure it out? Its important. As I read about the Sophie in the novel, I pictured it above the quarterdeck- please tell me what to modify.

Why I may want a new texture: the placing of the windows is made for a mutch larger hulled ship, a proper sized brig. So now it looks a bit... weird. Thats Why I want to make a new one. And, if the new texture is finished, (which match the shnyava's dimensions more) im
going to put it up to the ftp. ANd anyone can make a modification of the texture.

yes, its uses a modified, renamed shniava, and luggervml texture, and tzhe stock deck texture.
But Im gonna fix the damn windows first I think

Just this time plz stick my name to my creation lol <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" /> The tricorner hat blaze model, and the spyglasses without the little crosshair was my old mods.

By the way: the <b>detailed corvette</b>: Unless in the Shnyava model, I dont modified the stock model, or the rigging itself, just added a wheel, a bell, anchors, and changed the upper deck guns into the guns from the luggerVML. What are you think about just switch the stock corvette gm's into that one? (bcause this Corvette basically just more detailed) Or add as a new ship anyway?

Sooner or later a brig is going to come up too. (As soon as I get myself one ingame <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" /> <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" />)

So basically: class 4 , 3, 2 new ships, or modifications coming right up, each with big flags and more ondeck detail

Oh, by the way: did I mentioned , that I REALLY LIKE all the new ships since post build 12? yes? no problem <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" /> I do it again: I REALLY LIKE all the new ships since post build 12

I mean replacing the corvette, I think we should replace all stock models with modified stock models with more details.

I would HIGHLY prefer NO replacing to take place AT ALL. If you want underdetailed ships out of your game, you can just remove the ships_init entries, but if you replace them, you can't have them in your game if you DO want to. And some people DO want to have as many different models in there as possible, even when they are less detailed. I know I don't want to lose any content at all.

In any case: A retexture would be nice, but is not required, but please do make it a seperate ship. If she's already using different textures than the original model, it's easy enough to do:
1) Copy the ship's MODEL folder
2) Make a new ships_init.c entry for her (with the changes to her stats that you like to see)
3) Put her in common.ini

To contact Pirate_KK, you can send him a PM or an e-mail at konrad[AT]camk[DOT]edu[DOT]pl .

Oh; And whatever you do, please make sure she won't get lost. You did a great job at her and it would be a shame to lose her. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/doff.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":doff" border="0" alt="doff.gif" />

Ok, Ill get the point <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" /> The corvette Is ready also. huh... Ill try to add her lines into the ships_init.c
By the way: the reason I did put up that question was: some of the stock riggings already got modified to have a big flag- and I tauth ... tought.... dmn. THINKED that put on more detail would be trhe same. Im talking about the detailed corvette, not the modified Shnyava. But I can see your point. Back then I was one of the guys who begged to have 2 kinds of model of each ship, stock or no: a hihg poly, and low poly version, and make it possible, to the NPC use the low poly, but If YOU capture it, switch to the high poly version. (To eradicate the lag which caused by the new superships)

Now I have a 2800+ amd athlon 64, 1gb ram, geforce 7600gs 256, and it STILL lags like hell in 1024x768, if more than one modified ship is at sea near me....

Yes, I can see your point. ANyway: what are you think about this old topic: to have an NPC versi8on of the gm's and a player version, and make the game switch between them?
It could speed up EVERYTHING.

Changing the resolution, or color depth wont do anything <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" />
And dont tell me that my system is still low end <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" /> <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" /> <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" /> I have a bet that POTC can lag on dual core with geforce 8800 <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" /> As I heard.
In programming experience: Most of the lag is caused by faulty using of the engines.

99% of the new games uses more than 3 low, med, high poly models for different view distances to speed up the game. Think, people- having the NPC and player ships with different poly count could be an easy way for this.

Uh.... It looks like that I need to replace something in the stock Shnyava anyway <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" /> <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" /> in the Shnyava1_rey_d1.gm model, in the STOCK model, all the normals are inside out.... The point where the yard meets the 3rd mast Always looked weird to me. Now I carefully inspected it in several views, and I found out, that we looking straight INTO the yard.... <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" /> lol Pieter, do you allow me to change into the fixed normal version of the rey? I think thats not count as a modification. Or, maybe If you want, I can add a big flag to the two stock shnyavas, as someone did with some stock corvettes. What do you say?

EDITED: WHAT A .....????????? All UNDAMAGED, full crewed stock corvettes fires only one first cannon! But the ammunition decreases like they fired two... But only one bang, one cloud of smoke, one flying cannonball, and one watersplash.... Hey guys!!!! Where are the other first cannon?????? The locators are there safe and sound, the shipinit.c says: first cannon : 2, but that thing wont fire at all!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WHat the....

HUH? Damn.... And ALL CORVETTE GM's lack one of the 4 back cannon locators... huh... So they fire only 3 of the back cannons.. all of them... But all two first cannon locators are there... Why they fire only one?? This is insane.... And compared to the frigate cannon locators, which are have its numbers in strict order, and have all the locators, the corvette locators are a big mess of numbers, and lacking one locator..... what a...

i knew about that mal-functional rear cannon. i never came to posting it here though. it's there since the stock-game.
