New swashbuckler with a few questions

Hello guys, I am new to the PA forums.

I was wondering if you gentlemen would be willing to offer me some insight and advice on a few things.

I have decided to buy a pirates game...either Sea Dogs or PoTC, but didn't know which one was better to start with for a n00b pirate sush as myself. Would Sea Dogs or PoTC be better for a beginner?

Is there significant stability issues with either game?

Are the games any less stable with the mods installed compared to stock versions?

From the reading I have been doing on the forums, it looks like build 12 is the latest mod for PoTC...if I do indeed get PoTC, should I mod right away, or play the game through first, then mod for a second play through the game?

Ooops, almost forgot, my hardware consist of an Athlon 64 3400, a gig of Corsair low latency pc 3200, a soundblaster Audigy, SATA HD, and a Radeon x850xt.

With that hardware config, do you see any possible issues that I may have with either game? I know Radeons can be funny with some games.

I Thank you very much for your help in advance.

Personally, I would go for PotC. But then I never played Sea Dogs. Sea Dogs is by itself (as I understand) a good game. PotC is by itself OK, but nothing excellent at all. However, with Build 12, things are improved so vastly that I consider it to be one of the best games ever. I don't know how it holds up to Sea Dogs, though. I do know Sea Dogs lacks a lot of features that PotC does have (walking around islands, for example, I think). Build 12 is rather stable; there are a small amount of bugs, but they're not at all bothersome. On the other hand, we also have the Post Build 12 mods (see the link to Pieter's Pirates Page in my sig), which includes a lot of other cool mods, but features several very big bugs indeed. I would recommend getting PotC and playing it for some time without mods. Once you're fed-up, get Build 12 and prepare to be impressed by the improvements. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />

BTW: For all I know, your graphics card should work fine, but I'm not sure. I don't really know much about these things.

i'm sure someone will tell me if i'm wrong but i read on a site somewhere that POTC was originally going to be labeled sea dogs 2 but then someone approached them and threw great wads pf cash at them and said hey call it this and change a few things.

Thanks for the advice guys.

I found a udes copy of PoTC at EB Games today for $7.99, so I went with it. I have already downloaded and installed the Build 12 mod and all seems to be great so far.

Thanks again guys:)

It's true that PotC was to be Sea Dogs 2. Then Disney came in and made Akella release it before it was truly finished as Pirates of the Caribbean instead. So there are still several bugs left in the original game (though not enough to make it unplayable; just weird things). And so modders have been finding a lot of unfinished code, which they then finished themselves and put into the modpack. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />

<img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/hi.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":gday" border="0" alt="hi.gif" /> there and welcome aboard, matey.

Yeah, I couldn't even contemplate playing POTC without Build 12 now. Stick with the Build for the time being and play through to the end of the Main Quest and beyond. I'm sure you'll thoroughly enjoy this version of the game, and eventually then be tempted to download and try out the latest mods in the Mod Pack.

Sea Dogs is better than AoP, more quests lines, more fun, better gamebplay, more real.

Focuses mainly on naval battles thou, but a heck of alot of fun <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />
