Sailor
Storm Modder
For those of you getting bored with the same old weapons, here are one dozen FRESH NEW weapons ported from the Russian SLiB mod. Thanks to Pieter for posting the original file with some unused models/textures from the SLiB mod.

<div align="center">
<a href="http://img17.imagevenue.com/img.php?image=55711_items9_122_623lo.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://img17.imagevenue.com/loc623/th_55711_items9_122_623lo.jpg" border="0" class="linked-image" /></a> <a href="http://img31.imagevenue.com/img.php?image=55717_itemsccc_122_1088lo.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://img31.imagevenue.com/loc1088/th_55717_itemsccc_122_1088lo.jpg" border="0" class="linked-image" /></a> <a href="http://img173.imagevenue.com/img.php?image=55889_itemsJD_122_680lo.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://img173.imagevenue.com/loc680/th_55889_itemsJD_122_680lo.jpg" border="0" class="linked-image" /></a>

The files are available on the <a href="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=10288" target="_blank">Build Mod FTP server</a> in the "KevinAtlanta" folder.

I also added the file to a free download host:
<a href="http://rapidshare.com/files/54490448/b14a6_SLiBweapons_v1_KevAtl.zip" target="_blank">http://rapidshare.com/files/54490448/b14a6...s_v1_KevAtl.zip</a>

Just click on FREE, enter the code on the next page, and download. RS.com does not work for some people - if that's you, use the FTP server. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />

BACKUP YOUR GAME FOLDER/FILES BEFORE APPLYING ANY MOD!!!

Installation instructions:
Copy the contents of the folders in this archive to their respective
POTC folders on your hard drive (leave the folder structure intact).
If asked, allow the new files to overwrite the existing files. These
mods are best used when you start a new game, although it may work
with an F11 reset on a saved game in progress. This mod requires the
Missing Man quest and the Assassin quest installed if you want to get
either of the two new unique weapons.

New weapons (standard non-qualitized weapons works with all):
    Sir Francis Drake's sword: one-of-a-kind ancient, mythical sword.
        - updated the item model
        - updated the Missing Man quest with new bladeID
        - Missing Man quest starts on Port-Au-Prince at level 15+
    Sword of Cortés: one-of-a-kind ancient, mythical sword.
        - updated Assassin Quest (Mateus Santos) with new bladeID
        - this blade is carried by a quest character
        - Assassin quest starts on Concecaio at level 5+
    Pump Shotgun: 3 shot pump action shotgun (20th century origin).
        - includes a new custom sound by KevAtl
    Bronze Knuckles: hand held weapon with sharp spikes.
    Banger Club: heavy wooden club for boarding parties.

New swords added (works with WeaponsMod ON or OFF, i.e., qualitized):
    Shamshir
    Chieftan
    Dueling Saber
    Snake Head
    Damascus Shamshir
    Black Sea Yatagan
    Dragon's Head

NOTES:
------
1    This mod was built with files from b14_alpha6.zip + pb_modifications.zip
    as a base, although this mod MAY work with older versions of the build mod.
2    Sir Francis Drake's sword used to be blade28, but has been changed to
    bladeFD to enable new features. The new blade28 is now the Shamshir.
3    New interface pictures are included and will overwrite existing files.
    However, no existing interface pictures are affected.
4    All changes are noted in the files with a "KevAtl" comment line.

Nice. Where do you find the 20th century shotgun? I don't think that one should be readily available... <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/whistling.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":wp" border="0" alt="whistling.gif" />

It's not connected to any quest - we probably need to find somewhere to put it. It's rare (1%-2%, level 14) , so it's hard to find. I've just been testing it using console.c. FYI - the shotgun requires Gunman ability.

in PROGRAMS/console.c:
<!--c1--><div class='codetop'>CODE</div><div class='codemain'><!--ec1-->void ExecuteConsole()
{
    ref pchar = GetMainCharacter();
    ref ch;
    int i;

GiveItem2Character(pchar,"pistol10"); // add this line here and press F12 in game<!--c2--></div><!--ec2-->

there are also a lot of other tiems i haven't seen before. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" /> what are those in the bottom right?

Rake Arm and Fire Poker. Both the models are messed up (no start or end point) which causes lots of error log entries. They were left out on purpose. If someone (a 3d modeler) wants to take a crack at fixing them, the interface pix are already there. And we could add them when the models work correctly.

20-th century shotgun?! What kind of madness is that?

After thinking for a while, I think we could find a compromise: player gets ONE shotgun in the temple at Khael Roa (if teleporters are there, so would be a shotgun - and even dr. M. Betruger). The ammunition should be similarily rare, but where the heck Hawk would get it after temple collapsed?

I think the shotgun should only be used as a funny easter egg somewhere. Just a one-of-a-king weapon that you can only get if you really, really want to. I think the player shouldn't be able to find it accidentally.

My thoughts exactly. But I put it in JUST IN CASE we wanted to "hide" it somewhere as an easter egg. IMHO, it should not be available in the general play of the game.

Maybe you could find some cool place/scenario where it could be found - only if the player wants to "cheat" with an out-of-period weapon. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dunno.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shrug" border="0" alt="dunno.gif" />

PS - I do have to admit that it is fun to play with... <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />

kevin

maybe we should put it in a place where you can only get using the 'slide' a.k.a. sidestep. althought that might make it too unlikely that you would find it. if anyone does place it in such a place, it needs to be visible.

other idea: place it in a store on one of the shelves. i've always wanted to grab one of those guns and run out the door. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="icon_wink.gif" />

LOL. Might be possible by adding a locator to the store model for that. In any case: I think it would be fun to add the shotgun as unique weapon either somewhere as a reward in a quest or in some hard-to-access location. Or we can do something similar to what I did with Mr. Gibbs: Just add a character to give you the weapon when you talk to him.

a character would be too easy to spot, i think. besides, what kind of character do you have in mind? rambo?

LOL. That would be <i>toooo</i> funny! Not a bad idea actually. I'd like that. There is the house in the QC jungle that is not used in any quest, right? How about having Rambo walk around there? Players can easily get there, but you don't get there through any quest, so you only find it by exploring on purpose. We would just need somebody to improvise a Rambo skin then.

Maybe not Rambo... I'd suggest Dirty Harry (Clint Eastwood)? Or, better, Fox Mulder (David Duchovny) with Dana Scully (Gillian Anderson)?

pirate_kk

maybe you'd have to kill whoever it's gonna be to get the gun. that should give you something to do! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile2.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":))" border="0" alt="smile2.gif" />

I don't really know the characters you mention, Pirate_KK. I'm fine with anything. I think it'd be funny. Morgan's idea of having to kill the character would also be a possibility. That way you must first survive the weapon yourself before being able to get it. Now if we also make this character really quite strong, that should pose a bit of a challenge and would also make sure you can't get it too early in the game. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />

Now as for the question of which character model to use... <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/whistling.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":wp" border="0" alt="whistling.gif" />

I would personaly prefer Clint Eastwood than Rambo...
But don't put him in QC strange house - even if there aren't any quests here, this house is surrendered by an aura of mystery that would be completly spoiled up if a mad Rambo or a Schwarzenegger walk around.

If you do choose Rambo, what about a certain room in Kael Roa labyrinth - the one with the developers' portraits? That would indead be hard to find.

I never even found that room myself. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />
Shouldn't that house in the jungle be used for SOMETHING?

The way is indicated on the floor. There are some skulls with arrows. Most of them are showing the way to the Alcove (which greatly spoils the fun by the way), the others leads to that room. Look carefully with the GM viewer, you should see it...

About the house of QC, I don't say there shouldn't be a quest here, I would just prefer something else than a wandering Rambo with a shotgun.

i've found the room, but only once. i stumbled across it completely by accident, when i tried to go through the maze without the arrows. it was surprisingly easy, as i seem to have found another way of getting through the maze (non-cheating), which also applies to the maltese abbey. but that's not what we're talking about here.

maybe the guy with the shotgun should be in the smugglers den on hispaniola/cuba(?). it isn't used for anything at the moment. there aren't even people around, and you can't enter any buildings either. maybe he killed everyone. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile2.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":))" border="0" alt="smile2.gif" />

Or we could simply add the shotgun as a real cheat. This way, no one would actually stumble across it. And they would have to explicitly want it to get it.

The "8" cheat key is currently not mapped to anything. From what I can tell, it was used for "shotgun mode" - which has nothing to do with this shotgun. I think that original shotgun mode made your current weapon(s) super powerful.

How easy/hard would it be to make a "GiveItem2Character" for the shotgun and tie it to the "8" cheat key?
