New weapons

Thomas the Terror

Mad Pirate
Storm Modder
Pirate Legend
I have searched the russian forums for some mods, and they have quite a few modellers there. I found these weapons (some 1 or 2 are from the SliB)

<img src="http://i93.photobucket.com/albums/l68/Thomas_the_Terror/POTC%20special%20Characters/Newswords.jpg" border="0" class="linked-image" />

<img src="http://i93.photobucket.com/albums/l68/Thomas_the_Terror/POTC%20special%20Characters/NewPistols.jpg" border="0" class="linked-image" />

1. rapier
2. saber
3. dirk
4. rapier

What should we do with them?

I like the second gun. Plain, elegant, very much like the Navy Issue line of weapons... but the first gun, it a Percussion Cap... a little too advanced to put ingame, methinks. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" /> The swords are OK, but the dirk looks a bit big and the rest not quite my style of weapon.

as i said, a dirk should be dagger-sized. i think it has simply been enlarged so you can see it better.

We could add them into the game, of course, if you have the interface icons to accompany them. I wonder what they'd actually add to the game though. I see no point in adding more weapons just for the sake of adding more weapons. I think there should be something special about them if we add them into the game. But if somebody puts all required files together including the required codechanges, I'm sure I or Pirate_KK will add them into a future modpack update.

why not just replace the excisting weapons with these better ones? replace the dagger with the dirk, the rapier with the old rapier, the second rapier with the solingen rapier (or the conquistador), and the saber with the old saber or the nicholas sharp saber (or anything else that would be fitting). the top pistol could be a replacement for the long pistol.

Are there currently any weapons that use already existing models? Like, this poisoned blade named Borgia, if I recall correctly? If yes, then you could replace it with one of those blades.

Besides, you could make some of them unique one-of-a-kind blades - special prizes from the quests <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" /> (actually, I think you should make most of the powerful blades-with-a-name unique <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" /> )

that has been discussed before. my opinion was that they should be rare, but not unique. the REALLY powerful ones could of course be unique, and the corsairs pride because of it's origin, but certain swords should just be rare, as multiple ones where produced. (as in the discription)

I'm sharing your point of view, Kazeite. If we use thoses models, that's the best thing we can do with it. Replacing some of the stock PotC models like Morgan T. said don't look like a good idea to me.

Not necessarily only the 'REALLY powerfull' swords, as you say. Nicolas Sharp's saber, Windmill Slayer and Tizonna was meant to be unique as well, and aren't this powerfull.

<!--quoteo--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE</div><div class='quotemain'><!--quotec-->and the corsairs pride because of it's origin<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
On the contrary I think this perticular sword shouldn't be unique. Several English Corsairs could have been rewarded those kind of swords...
<i>"Sword<u>s</u> like this were awarded to corsairs in service of Her Majesty for great service to Britain. It is equally well suited for both a courteous duel and a brutal boarding."</i>

the reason that it should be unique is because it would be rather strange if you be awarded it by a governor twice, and i don't see anyone giving it away, nor a pirate or bandit having one. it might be possible for an english captain of a warship haivng one though.

I agree with Morgan. A governor would not give the same sword twice, at least logically. The only way a pirate might have one is if they stole it from a Brithish Captain that was awarded one for one of his unknown exploits.

yes, that's true. if it's possible, enemies should have it equipped sometimes, but very rarely.

I don't want the old weapon models replaced. Either they should be additional or they shouldn't be added at all.

That was what I was saying. Not an unique item, but a pretty rare one.

A former English corsair could have died and his murderer would have taken the sword, then sold it... and when you enter in Quebradas Costillas store and ask your favorite storeman how his buisness going he could propose this sword to you, his best customer, for a high price... Or you could met the old last survivor of a mighty english corsair's crewmates who had managed to take the sword of his captain who would have died shot by some spanish arquebuse in his last fight, and hide it from the spaniards... Then he could have kept this blade all his life long but now that he's old and seak, he's ready to give it to you, if you kill one of his deadly enemy that once betrayed the famous corsair... Who knows! But there are many way for an English Corsair or his descendants to have lost one of those prestigious swords (more likely with their life) and for others to have taken it.
That would allow the player to find one of this sword without having to serve England - of course with a really, really low probability, in order that it would be really exceptionnal. I imagine you inviting to diner in your somptuous cabin the english captain you captured recently. How cynical it would be to show him this sword while eating... A kind of humiliation...
Or you could meet in the English Islands some rich aristocratic families, descending from a successful corsair, who would have hang up the sword on the cheminy... Or you could met a competitor that is serving England too, have already been awarded this sword and proudly keeps it with him - the difficulty would be to gain a better fame then him, or even to kill him in a duel for the Governor's daughter...

I tried to make the Nicholas Sharp saber unqiue in Build 14 Alpha 6. Has anyone encountered one while playing that version? If so, I failed. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />

I hate to say it but I encountered one early this morning. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />

That's right: the Borgiablade (id BladeX1) uses the stock rapier model, and the Thief's knife (BladeX3) and the Poisoned Throwingknife (pistolpdart) the stock dagger.
Feel free to replace that.

DARN! Could somebody please help to make the Nicholas Saber properly unique? Apparently what I did wasn't good enough. Are they more rare now anyway? Can you ever buy them? Or can you only loot them?
