Newbie - Need some help :)

RaptiCon

Landlubber
It's been a long time since I last played POTC, but now I feel like playing it again, only now I'm going to play it with a build, build 12 that is. How is that build to play with, like the overall of the build? I've read that people play as Captain Barbossa and Jack Sparrow etc. , how can I change my character? And is it not possible to change the resolution of the game?

Thx for your time! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

RaptiCon, Welcome to the site! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

I think that you are going to like playing POTC with the Build, the work that the modders have done to the game have made it a much better experience than the original game. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/doff.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":doff" border="0" alt="doff.gif" />

As far as changing the game's resolution, I don't recall hearing that anything can be done to change how the game looks other than turning the bright up on your monitor, others will be along soon and they may be able to help you on this.

As far as the game's resolution, one of the mods enables you to play the game after you have defeated the Black Pearl, but when you download the Build, the Readme should give you a good idea of all of the things that have been changed and improved.

You can play as either Jack Sparrow or Barbarossa, you can buy at the tailor shops most of the characters in the game, and you can change your name from Nathaniel Hawk to what ever you like by following the directions in the BuildSettings.h file.
If you want to start the game from the beginning as Barbarossa you can do that too, (You can start with the Jack Sparrow model, just tell the mate that you feel like having dreads,) let us know when you have downloaded the Build and we'll tell you what files to change. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/bookish.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":mm" border="0" alt="bookish.gif" />

Thank you for the answer, after som trying and failing I eventually found it out. You can change both the resolution and the detail level if you go into your POTC folder and run config.exe. I still suck at fighting though :p

If you want some great practice at fighting without risking too much (like your ship), go into the dungeon on Redmond, or the sewer on Oxbay and fight the smugglers. Save frequently, and just reload the game if you die or end up in the tavern room... <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/me.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="me.gif" />

OR you can beat up on the rapists or highwaymen in the jungles - they are typically not quite so difficult to defeat.

Remember when you are in a battle with more than one opponent, it is easier to get into a corner or bottleneck where you only have to deal with one assailant at a time. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yes" border="0" alt="yes.gif" /> If you can't do that, then hold your block key and wait for the two assailants to strike at you at the same time. Then hit one of them and you'll probably injure him. Put your block back up IMMEDIATELY and wait for the next opportunity to strike - right after they BOTH hit you at the same time.

There are new weapons like the stinkbomb, ether, or grenade. Learn to use them wisely and you will do all right if you are attacked by a mob (like sometimes in the dungeons). I once had five or six after me and I threw a grenade and did them all in at once - you have to be quick tho, or you will do damage to yourself, too.

Also get a multi-shot pistol or brace of pistols and SHOOT before you are attacked. You will find this most helpful if you are worried about being overwhelmed by superior numbers.

It helps to have a good sword if you can find one. Look for one with the highest block value. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yes" border="0" alt="yes.gif" />

And POTIONS - LOTS of potions - which you can consume mid-battle by hitting the "C" (for cure!) key.

I must have rum in my Life cereal EVERY morning! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="icon_wink.gif" /> <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" />

Uhm, Dungeons and Sewers, are those new in the Build? Hard to find the dungeons\sewers? Thanks again!

Haha, gosh, thanks. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/oops3.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":eek:ops2" border="0" alt="oops3.gif" /> Merely trying to help, we're a friendly bunch around here... <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

Sewer in Oxbay is easy to find, just stand facing the door to the shipyard and turn right - walk towards the building to your right, into the small yard. You will see to your right some steps down, and a door. THAT is the sewer.

Dungeon in Redmond is a little more tricky to find - stand with your back to the church, and face the two ways you can go to get out of that section of town. Go to your left, and as your path turns to the right - before you go through the portal there will be steps down and a door - that is the dungeon (and will say so).

They are not new in the Build, they are stock to PotC. They used to have skeletons (the cursed pirate skellies) in it, but now they contain smugglers. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" /> Have fun! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />

I like to go in the back way, especially when playing Xbox. Go to the shore and face the ocean. Then go down to the water on the right (as you face out) and swim around the rocks. You'll come to a cave, which is the other entrance.

I only go as far as the big chamber with the center pillar. I never go up the stairs because there's not much there, but lots of bad guys. (There's a pretty nice sword in there in XBox, but in the build, it's random crap.)

if u think ur a newbie i havent even played yet i dont no how where do u click to go on?

Sometimes the Space-button will do the trick, and sometimes Enter will do the trick. Depends on what you want to do, open or board a ship etc.
