i have got a suspicion that since i installed build12.1, the officers abilities don't do anything anymore. i discovered this by removing my navigator before a boarding. he was the only officer with increased sailing speed, but when i removed him, my speed didn't drop at all. sailing skill seems to have less effect than it used to. same for cannon skill. i turn slower than i used to with a sailing skill of ten, and i load my cannons slower. if i have the skill or ability myself, it does have effect.
 
ref the sailing skills i've been thinking the same - and have suspicions it might effect other officer skills also? not sure as i havent got high-level enough yet to test at the higher officer skill levels.

But with a navigator with sailing skills of upto 5(+some sailing perks like increase speed 15% etc) it makes no difference to my ships performance if they are an active party officer or not. I'm 100% sure of that. So yeah something could be broken here?
 
Can anybody confirm that this is actually broken since Build 12.1? I recall it worked just fine in there. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />
 
hows it with the crew of your other ships?
since one of your officers commandeers it, does it have full "1" stats across the board, or do the captains skill get applied, but not from his officers, or does it work as it should?

haha, this one would be even harder to check i guess.
 
i never have other ships, so that's impossible to check for me. if i understand your meaning correctly, the officers skills are shown to be added, but don't have affect.

but yeah, they DO show
 
well, someone else has to answer that, but i have discovered that accuracy does have effect. it seems to be only certain skills that don't work.
 
btw, are you sure the skills dont really work? i mean, maybe "sailing" is only supposed to increase agility, and not speed?

i would like to know, if the player can actually make use of the perks of the officers...
for instance, i think i can use the "quick repair" from my first mate, but not "quick turnaround".
maybe that has something to do with the prerequisites?
 
i know sailing skill doesn't increase speed, but you do have the ABILITY increase sailing speed. that doesn't have any effect. maybe only ther abilities don't work, and that i'm just imagining things considering the skills. i thought everyting involving skills just seemed less.

i can be wrong... but im quite sure my character doesnt have "quick repair" (im not talking about light repair, that sub10% ability) but on of his officers has.

and i can use THIS ability, strangely enough, but not all the time.

In the build you can't use "quick repair" all the time but only if you are "at a safe anchorage". That limitation can be switched off in buildsettings.h: just set #define REALREPAIR to 0

I'd say that officer abilities do work but the effect is not always apparent.
 
you know, theres this small chance that im wrong. i think ill actually have to check it out, to be sure.

but there is another possible source of mistaking... i redistributed my own abilities at the church.
maybe that affects how things work, too? well, i dont know jack about it.

edit: oh and i just read ccc's post. i didnt know that!
 
i have build 12.1. maybe that matters. the thing is that i CAN use my repair abilities anywhere and the fact that removing my only officer with increased sailing speed didn't have any effect. there's definetly something going on here.

That has been slightly changed per Hook's suggestion. Now you can always use the quick repair perk, except when you can't enter map sailing mode, so you can't repair while in a battle, but you can in all other instances.
 
does repairing in battle near an island count as well? cos i can.( if I have the ability, not one of my officers)
 
In Build 13 Beta you're not supposed to be able to use the quick repair ability while in a battle. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />
 
i have build 12.1 and i'm NOT going to install any unfinished versions of build 13. especially now it's nearly finished.
 
No problem. I was worrying there was a bug in the Build 13 Beta, but since you're not using it, it's not a bug either. The final Build 13 is scheduled for release this weekend. Or at least: The first final testversion is... <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/whistling.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":wp" border="0" alt="whistling.gif" />
