<img src="http://www.piratesahoy.net/images/stories/wiki.gif" border="0" class="linked-image" />On this date in the year 1521 Ferdinand Magellan reached the island of Homonhon in the Philippines and thus became the first European ever to reach there.  Unfortunately, this discovery would also be his last as only a little more than a month later on the morning of April 21st he was shot with a poisonous arrow and later surrounded and finished off by angry natives with spears and other weapons.
