Open World question

I have installed build 13 and before i start a new game, i was just wondering if following the main storyline is compulsory or optional? I'm the type of person who likes to do a lot of trading and side quests rather than a storyline.

Following the main storyline is completely optional

Some quests have a time limit for how long you have to do them (but it is only a small part of the quest). But most of the time there is absolutly NO time limit

Yep; most of the time, you can do ANYTHING you want with no limits.
Free play is VERY much possible.
