Period potc

Is there anyway of playing the Game in a specific Time line , for instance just playing with the Galleons and Fleuts or ships just representative of early sixteenth century , instead of having ships spanning 200 years of maritime ship design <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

I don't think so, unless someone make a mod to do that... <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" /> Personalyl I would not know what ship went where, heh. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/blush.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":eek:ops" border="0" alt="blush.gif" />

I suppose they jammed it all into one game for gameplay... It's not exactly hysteri... <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":rolleyes:" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" /> ...uh, <i>historically</i> correct otherwise either. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/no.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":no" border="0" alt="no.gif" />

There's been some discussion on doing that, creating several different timelines - We've got soldiers from the Napoleonic era from JMV, and others were talking about splitting off ships &tc... Making those with actual wheels at the helm instead of nothing (implying the earlier rudder arm instead)...

Big project... It can be done, but it's a BIG project. We unfortunately don't have the manpower for it. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dunno.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shrug" border="0" alt="dunno.gif" />

Thanks ladies i've just been reading alot about Drake and its inspired me shame we havent got any nice big Flota Galleons packed to the gunnels with loot which seems to be in short supply when you board a ship but i can hope <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/duel_pa.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":ixi" border="0" alt="duel_pa.gif" /> <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

I like the old designs. You can see the Flute in my sig.

Problem is that if you sail one you get your ___ kicked by all the corvettes and frigates.

That is why I added the War Galleon, with stats that allow you to compete with the newer warships.

Also did a "rumrunner flute", a contradiction in terms, but haven't released it.
Cat, I'm saving it for your "sneaky trader"!

Its a nice model Petros but tis not a English Race built Galleon which had the third deck removed from the stern , in game with the new fire mod i think she has lost whatever advantage she had but i would also love a Galleas or one of the Huge Spanish galleons but you would have to find a way to model with much slower broadsides to mimmick the arrangement of the armament

Not entirely.
Last I saw, the frigates and corvettes also lost the large cannon advantage.
Only the super frigate kept the larger cannons.

Besides, once the B13 is finalized, and released, I'll probably go in and change the War Galleon's guns back for my own game. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile2.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":))" border="0" alt="smile2.gif" />

Just conducted a little test with the old girl against a Fleut after one Broadside from the Fleut i was down to 68% hull and had insufficient crew to exstinguish the fires ,two more broadsides and the fire sank me so maybe the fire mod needs adjusting maybe its too debilitating . What game are you developing yourself

<div align="right"></div><!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->

None.
I mean the way I play/configure PotC on my PC.

For the most part, I play PotC modded to build 12 with the PotCMods.zip added in.

If I make changes not included in the Buildsettings.h file, I consider it significantly different and refrain from giving bug reports, and such.

As for the fire Mod, that can be adjusted in the Buildsettings.h or turned off completely I think.

Ship hull strength is only part of the equation the game uses.

The number of crew, their morale, your skill points for defense, your and your officer's special Defense Ability level, the enemy's skill and morale, are factors as well.

You need the first level special "Defense Ability" just to be able to put out the fires.

I think the Battleship is also a Galleon design, with the forecastle and the high stern, as is the Black Pearl- style ship.

Aah ya right Petros i did indeed have insufficient skill level i don't think the Battleship is a Galleon as the it was rendered obselete by the later generations of ships built in King James reign it looks to me like the class of ship that was appearing about the 1650's althoughi could be wrong and i'm sure there is a Naval historian amougst us who will put me straight <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/duel_pa.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":ixi" border="0" alt="duel_pa.gif" />

Ooooh, that sounds GREAT! Thank you! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/doff.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":doff" border="0" alt="doff.gif" />

There used to be some really great ship discussions on this forum - with the intent to create the eras you would like to have in the game - never got anywhere, I think "RL" got in the way. (as it has a BAAAAD habit of doing from time to time!) <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/urgh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":urgh" border="0" alt="urgh.gif" />

Speaking of Drake, I have a lovely skin built off of the Spanish Admiral that is meant to be Sir Francis...

<img src="http://www.ganotherapyusa.com/extras/drake1.jpg" border="0" class="linked-image" />

Skull had a quest he was working on that this was to be for, but he lost it in a hard drive crash. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad.gif" />

Several others have wanted to use him for one thing or another, but none of the ideas ever came to fruition. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dunno.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shrug" border="0" alt="dunno.gif" />

I love the way he turned out... VERY Elizabethan... (it's the collar, heh!)

<img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/me.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="me.gif" /> Nice looking Fella that Drake chap looks alot like the bloke at the Spanish Governers House doesnt he

Be pretty easy actually to add an era system for ships.
Just add two attributes: startyear and endyear.
Then in Fantom_GetShipType() check for startyear <= GetDataYear() <= endyear
Now, that won't fix manually assigned ships (i.e. any characters who have ships in their ch inits, or ships assigned via q_r), but since 90-odd-percent of the ships you see are from fantoms, that should do most of it.

Cat: Great!
That reminds me, though--speaking of Drakealikes--if any skinners/modelers/etc. are taking requests, if one of you could do a Geoffrey Thorpe.
<a href="http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0033028/" target="_blank">http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0033028/</a> but there don't seem to be any real pictures, nor from the colorized version.
(It's a movie I grew up with--the trinity of that, Captain Blood, and Robin Hood. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/happy.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="^_^" border="0" alt="happy.gif" />)

<!--QuoteBegin-NathanKell+Jun 19 2005, 10:50 PM--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(NathanKell @ Jun 19 2005, 10:50 PM)</div><div class='quotemain'><!--QuoteEBegin-->if any skinners/modelers/etc. are taking requests, if one of you could do a Geoffrey Thorpe.
<div align="right"></div><!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd--> Question is, how do you want him, Nathan? I think he could be done one of several ways...

I found a bunch of pics, mostly the same stuff but here are three different looks:

<img src="http://www.ganotherapyusa.com/extras/seahawk1.jpg" border="0" class="linked-image" />

<img src="http://www.ganotherapyusa.com/extras/seahawk1b.jpg" border="0" class="linked-image" />

<img src="http://www.ganotherapyusa.com/extras/seahawk2.jpg" border="0" class="linked-image" /> <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />

Nice finds!
And thanks for taking this up. Much obliged. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

{ Ah, that middle pic--the irony. He finally looks like Captain Blood--in the wrong movie! }

The last one, I would say; the first would be neat, but there's really no way to add a cape, and without a cape it'd look kinda weird I'd think.
In the colorized version the vest is light brown, looks almost more fabric than leather IIRC...
Ah, found. Tiny, but the color looks right:
<img src="http://www.shopping-entertainment-online.com/vintage-stars/efseaha.gif" border="0" class="linked-image" /> <img src="http://site.voila.fr/cinepho3/realisat/curtiz/aigledesmers.jpg" border="0" class="linked-image" />

Wait a sec--maybe we can use one of the coated people, but mask the front side of the coat?
(Or, FTM, Lass & Inez have got moving vertices around working, so I could just straight-up convert one of the coat folks...)

Other than the beard, the middle one is perfect for barbossa/pirat10 (he starts out with a hat). The lowest one, Blaze actually fits pretty well, though Blaze's vest is open. Hmm.
Top one, one of the Dutch soldiers but we'd need a headswap...

I guess, whichever takes your fancy--I'm well mired in I-can't-decideville. :]

How about your beardless Blaze with the cuirasse? I think that could work... <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yes" border="0" alt="yes.gif" /> <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

Only thing tricky would be those mid-thigh BOOTS (dang!).

Ah, well, artistic license. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/happy.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="^_^" border="0" alt="happy.gif" />
Hey, didn't Lass just mention using Danielle's legs? They're thigh-high boots IIRC.

Aye, but that might just give old Thorp a caboose the other crew mates find irresistible, lead'n to all manner of discipline problems! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />
