Peter Blood - 1st quest - weird problem

Rummy

Landlubber
Hi

I must be missing something obvious here but I am in the very first Peter Blood quest at the point where I speak to Dan the apothecary to get the Meds for Steed's wife. As soon as I step outside Dan's house to meet Dan in the street I get the death screen (body in cage on gibbett) and get taken back to the start menu. Not sure why this is happening as there are no enemies about, my health is OK, i'm not carrying weapons (got caught out with that earlier in the plantation). I have grabbed quite a few items along the way which were in chests and cupboards - do you die if you take too much stuff, ie. you are recognised as a thief and strung up ?? There doesn't seem to be any hint that taking items you find is in any way a bad thing to do, so not sure if this is the problem.

Any guidance would be welcome!

Cheers
Rummy

Just restart the quest, maybe that can fix it..<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->

It doesn't say anything in the quest or log about this being a timed mission (usually you get some sort of countdown timer for those) so I suspect its not timed. I will probably restart unless someone else comes up with some ideas.

The screen you get does appear when you're out of time.Try completing that faster.Out of plantation , straight to governor house , medic house, back to governor.Load an earlier save and do that right away.Maybe you spent to much time running around, exploring.

Its happening randomly now and obviously wasn't linked to just that single mission as I managed to get past that. Now i'm getting it on pretty much every mission within this first quest, usually it happens just after I have talked to someone or after exiting a door or gate. Its making gameplay a real chore - is it always like this ? Is every mission within a quest timed ? I'm saving with F6 all over the place just in case.....sometimes I can get ahead for a while and then suddenly up comes the death screen, its driving me nuts <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/w00t.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":woot" border="0" alt="w00t.gif" />

You have time and date at right top of the screen.Check what time it is when before it's happening. You'll probably see that's the same hour.
Before escaping from Bridgetown you're pretty much on time limit for everything. After that you can do whatever you please.
Either you're out of time or you've done something compromising your chances of escape.

If you realy need help and don't mind spoilers for the begining check walkthrough thread or

Thanks for the advice. The time does advance. Its quite easy to prove these crashes (or whatever they are) are not timer related because if I stand still in the town or elsewhere and just let the time advance nothing happens, no death scene, so it cannot be down to a hidden timer. I think its just bugged, perhaps because of something I did out of sequence earlier on, no way of knowing. Looks like I will just have to start over again with another profile.

Yes it can, the game over sequence is simply triggered by exiting an area.

Ahhh, right........thanks <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" /> Stupid system for a timed mission though, they should have included a visual countdown timer so that you know what you are up against. Also there is no way of telling which particular mission in a quest is being timed out.
