In golden age, in Philipsburg on St. Martins, if you talk to a dutch guard, he announces the french soldiers have snuck into the town, and charges bravely off to face them.
If he survives the battle, and you change scenes and talk to him again, it still works well, he announces another group of french troops, and charges off to face them.
But if he dies in the battle, then when you change scenes and return, he will still announce the arrival of the French, but this time (and subsequent repeats as well) he won't rush off the join the battle. Instead, he will wander around peacefully, and if he walks by french troops, they both ignore each other (the civilians keep fighting them though).
