Pirates of the Caribbean: Armada of the Damned

Yeah, I see anime as satiric, it lacks personality and is a public owned style. Everybody can learn to make it from a checklist and easy way to make anything in a hurry.

Beatrice Blaze is very nicely made though, and is brought to life via good animations. And I agree with you, PotC has its own style from that Cpt Blood genre. I used to read french cartoons when I was young, it resembles the style of François Bourgeon among others.
That probably have something to do with Thomas <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

When it comes to stylized cartooney designs, I grew up with the following:
<img src="http://www.leonardogori.com/fumetti/images/DonLeoGori/nederland.jpg" border="0" class="linked-image" />
<img src="http://www.hotellounge.com/pics/suske_en_wiske_2.jpg" border="0" class="linked-image" />

<img src="http://www.spoenk.nl/archives/200402/kuifje_picaros.jpg" border="0" class="linked-image" />
^ BRILLIANT stuff. And much nicer-looking than that lame anime style!

Me too! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" />

Also, i liked Tardi's Adele - in parts, its a very cynical world he makes.

I got surprised, once I found out that Hergé actually never left his apartment, but wrote everything out from newspaper articles. Some fantasy he had! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

Haha! Guust Flater and Lucky Luke indeed! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/me.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="me.gif" />
I never did read Iznogood in comic-form, but did use to like the TV series.
I just like all that <i>sooo</i> much better than the "modern"... (*word deliberately omitted*).

As far as the cartoony style, I love the old classic toons myself, but I also love the MANGA style of art. You must remember that 'Anime' is based on an older artform in Japan known as Manga.

Now remember that the Japanese do NOT view cartoons as kids stuff like folks do in the west, especially americans. They view it as a legitimate art form and one of many valid manners in which to tell fully developed, mature stories.

The thing I think you guys are going on is the simple fact that so many immature cartoons are now done in an Anime style. Its actually detracted from the genre and made many folks resent the art form.

Some of the stuff that originally turned me on to Anime was the original Starblazers stuff, Speed Racer and similar early seminal Anime works that were brought over to the US.

But if you want to read some of the stuff that makes Manga/Anime worthwhile, Read any of Masamune Shirow's works, such as Black Magic M-66, Appleseed, Dominion - Tank Police, Ghost in the Shell and Orion. Another excellent Manga was Venus Wars by Yuichi Sasamoto.

Those are the stories and imagery that REALLY sparked my interest and love of the Manga/Anime style of art.

So I don't see what the problem is with an anime style, as long as its not all done in a Dragonball Z style, but with the attention to detail that is a hallmark of the titles I've mentioned.

Of course my dislike started with Pokemon, Dragonball Z and whatever crap they show on television these days for the kids.
I'm willing to believe there's better anime/manga stuff than that. But I still don't much care for the look of it.
It just strikes me as being a rather violent look, strangely enough.
There IS one TV series that is more-or-less anime though which I DO love; and I wished I could find it on DVD somewhere:
<img src="http://www.nautiljon.com/images/anime/montana_jones.jpg" border="0" class="linked-image" />

It IS cool. Especially if you like Indiana Jones. Treasure-hunting, good humour and useless bad guys with crazy robots. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/24.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":rofl" border="0" alt="24.gif" />
See here: <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Montana_Jones" target="_blank">http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Montana_Jones</a>
If only it was AVAILABE somehow. It used to be on TV, but not it's NOWHERE! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/whippa.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":whipa" border="0" alt="whippa.gif" />

Awesome, I'll see if I can find something out and if so I'll let you know.

You need to check out the titles I mentioned as well. Some of them are serious, others are comedies, but all of them are great stories!

Hands down my two favorites though are Appleseed and Ghost in the Shell.

I don't think I can find time to check them out though, but I'll believe you on your word.

oh, that's Montana. i loved the series. pretty much how i got in contact with steampunk.

also, i've read that particular book, welcome to alfolol. it's from the Ravian series.
