Pirates of the Caribbean: Community Prequel Script

Perhaps Beckett isn't trying to make a profit here. Perhaps Beckett has a different reason. Perhaps something to do with Tia Dalma. Perhaps Beckett heard of this voodoo sorceress in the African jungle and wants to use her to his own purpose or something like that?

I think Jack would get a few morsels of information out of Edwards, but not too much. He will still be surprised in Africa. I think most of the information Jack will get from Edwards is Mercer- or Beckett-related and not mission-related.

Gentlemen and Officers,

Perhaps we are back to Prisoners again?

I like the idea of Beckett wanting Tia for some purpose, but can't imagine how that would pan out - What has she done previously that has come to his attention, is there time to tell this story? Or is it just a quick dialogue thing which is covered back in London between Beckett and Mercer?

"Your task Mr Mercer is to ensure my cargo arrives free from interuption"
"It will be done Lord Beckett"
"It had better be Mr Mercer, if anything happens to her, you will be personnaly held accountable, do I make myself clear?"

So the reference to her is vague, but when we see Tia in Africa it becomes clearer.

A line of people joined by neck manacles or similar is walked up the dock to the ship.

Jack looks on aghast.

As Tia reaches the deck of the ship and the neck manacle is being removed, perhaps she looks Jack in the eye and says;

"What brings you to Africa on such an errand Jack Sparrow?"

As she is led away he turns after her and says;

"Thats Captain Jack Sparrow" and "How the hell do you know my name?"

"It is destiny Jack Sparrow, that brings you here you will see..."

I think Jack would be pretty freaked out by this. I can also see Mercer looking across the deck suspiciously at Jack having heard the exchange.

Perhaps there is an opportunity for some brief dialogue between them.

Jack and Tia had a relationship, as you can make out from DMC. the thing is, when was this relationship? during this movie, or before? during seems more probable, and this could be implemented well if done right.

Good point,

Jack and Tia had a relationship "almost imseperable" I think it was before he took Barbossa into his crew in Tortuga.

She gave Jack the compass 7 years before DMC, so it fits into this time frame

Gentlemen and Officers,

Bit puzzled now with this timeframe.

Tia is Tia in Africa, so this must be after she was bound in human form. This means that Jones is already up to his evil ways having abandened the soul retrieval gig.

Is Beckett already after him then and is using Tia as a hostage?

Or is Calypso able to assume human form at will and has not yet met Jones?

the first brethren court must have been before this timeframe then. good point. there is no determination as how long ago davy was betrayed by tia (according to him, at least) but if davy is still (mostly) human, this can't be that much before this timeframe. however, if this is indeed the case, then barbossa could have been pirate lord at this point, because that would only mean 13 or 14 plus years that he would have been pirate lord in AWE. Jack must have succeeded his father as pirate lord somewhere in the ten years that he lost the pearl, or during this timeframe (presuming that his father was the pirate lord of the caribbean). this could be implemented in him becoming a pirate. for instance, whe he becomes one, he succeeds his father as pirate lord, maybe the fact that his father was pirate lord being a secret until then. this should really be thought out some more.

Personally I was surprised by how much I dislike the character of Tia Dalma while watching parts of AWE yesterday. So personally I would opt for not putting her into the movie more than we need to and CERTAINLY not show much of a romance between Jack and Tia. Is it just me, or does she look amazingly ugly? So I would suggest that the whole romance thing plays in those ten years between Jack losing the Pearl and the beginning of CotBP. I would much rather see Jack romancing around with Annamaria. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/flower.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":ty" border="0" alt="flower.gif" />
And Scarlett and Giselle are always good for a laugh. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />

The AWE film makes it clear that the Brethren Court in that film is NOT the same as the one that imprisoned Calypso. It is also said that there has not been a pirate king since the first Brethren Court (that imprisoned Calypso). This suggests to me that the first Brethren Court was a looong time ago. However, we also don't want to show squidface Jones in the film, so we need to think up some reason why Davy does not appear all tentacly in the prequel. I would say that his becoming sea-like was going slow in the first many years of his curse and speeded up dramatically between the prequel and DMC. So in the prequel we might show tiny hints that something is wrong, but not make it very obvious. If anybody has a better reason for Davy Jones not being tentacly in the prequel: SPEAK UP!

Pieter,

There is no indication how long ago the first bretheren court was, so it should be no problem to assume that Tia is the bound Calypso when in Africa.

But it leaves open questions which may need answering in some sort of dialogue. It does not have to feature any big scenes with Jones, as we had agreed to limit his involvement. But a discorse between characters may be sufficient.

An explanation why Jones is not all tentacly is required. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yes" border="0" alt="yes.gif" />

That will be an all nighter. I will brainstorm a couple of ideas over the next few days and i will see what we come up with. Please note that turning into a sea-creature happens at quite a quick pace, remember that AWE took off about 2-3 months after DMC, so remember Bootstrap in DMC he was partially covered in coral, but then in AWE he had Tons more sea-creature life on him than before. So Davy Jones COMPLETE transformation might have happened in a time period of 6, months to a year or maybe even two. Just the perfect timeframe between COBP and DMC. Jones wasnt specific PER SE on how many years he devoted to the duty, he said ten, implying that maybe it was 10 <i>more</i> years he devoted to the duty, maybe hundreds of years had been devoted before Calypso failed to meet him. And after a 10 year period more, he abandoned the duty thus turning into a celaphod.

Thats just a preliminary idea, please expand on it.

Gentlemen and Officers,

Clearly Jones can not have had a relationship with a sea spirit (Calypso) in the true sense, so I think it's fair to assume that she was able to adopt human form (Tia) at will.

Does anyone know if there was a squiddy contract clause built in to his original deal with Calypso?

Perhaps Jones becoming all squiddy only happened because he gave up his role as soul gatherer and Tia then put a seperate curse on him to punish him?

so you mean that the breathren court prevented her to become spirit-like again when she was in human form at some point?

That is correct. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yes" border="0" alt="yes.gif" />

Not that I'm aware of. Wouldn't they just be turning into sea creatures because they now have to spend almost all their time in the ocean?

I would agree that probably the transformation happened rather quickly, simply because he broke his deal and was now subject to whatever ravages the sea would have on him, along with a little help from being cursed.

I think this is the official course of events:

Davy Jones fell in love with Calypso. Calypso gave him immortality, but he would have to ferry the souls of the people who died at sea to the underworld. Once every ten years he would be allowed to go ashore to see the woman he loved (Calypso). After ferrying the dead for ten years, he went ashore, but Calypso wasn't there. He got angry and abandoned the task he was given. He told the first Brethren Court how to bind her in human form and he cut out his hart and hid it from the world. Now he was cursed to sail the seas forever and become like a creature of the sea.

When Will killed Davy Jones, the Flying Dutchman still needed a captain. So Bootstrap cut out his Will's heart and put it in the chest. Will was now captain of the Flying Dutchman. He spend his last day with Elizabeth, then went to ferry the souls of the dead for ten years. After ten years, he returned to the land of the living and Elizabeth was there waiting for him. The curse is now broken.

Interesting to note that Calypso and Davy Jones did not manage to do what two mortals did manage: to stay true to each other for ten years without seeing each other.

Carefully read my post above, you will see what i have planned for that JUST 10 years of servitude thing. I think he just meant the most recent 10 years of his duty, not necessarily ONLY 10, catch what i am saying?
