Pirates of the Caribbean: Community Prequel Script

That would be possible. He might have done several terms of ten years. But I recall Ted and Terry stating on their forum that when, after ten years, the captain's love has remained true to him, the curse will be lifted. So if that is true, Calypso has never been there waiting for Davy. Not the first time, not the second time. Perhaps that is what drove Davy to be so cruel: Calypso wasn't there for him the first time and the next time, she AGAIN wasn't. Now even the kindest person might become truly angry if who he thinks is his true love keeps not appearing. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" />

Well, we've got to come up with something because all we have to go on is what i suggested. Maybe he kept doing his duty even though Calypso didnt come to see him, finally after so long it was the last straw.

That they were true to each other until the last ten?

<!--quoteo(post=219978:date=Nov 2 2007, 09:58 PM:name=Old Salt)--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Old Salt @ Nov 2 2007, 09:58 PM) </div><div class='quotemain'><!--quotec-->That they were true to each other until the last ten?<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
Thats one of my suggestions. But the other one about them having not seen each other for decades, but Jones still remaining faithful to the duty is another way to go i think.

So even though he hasn't seen Calypso for decades he continues to uphold his end of the bargain until something finally makes him abandon his pledge and break the deal. We could assume that she did more to him than simply not show up. She cheated on him perhaps. A betrayal like that could spark the worst kind of retribution and sorrow for all parties involved.

There are a couple of ways this could go; 1) Calypso is cruel and heartless, 2) she could not meet Jones because she was imprisioned.

Perhaps if the later, she is being brought back to the Caribbean by Beckett having escaped?

If she escaped with a group of fugitives, these could be Jacks cargo.

Why was she imprisioned? Who knows.

If we go the cruel and heartless route it could get all dark, which is something we wanted to avoid.

She was imprisoned only AFTER she didn't show up, because: Calypso doesn't show up, Davy gets angry and
1) Cuts out his heart
2) Abandons his task
3) Betrays Calypso and tells the first Brethren Court how to bind her in human form

One thing I do wonder about: WHY did Calypso not meet Davy? Does Calypso love Davy at all? Or is it just one-way traffic? When challenged by Davy as to why she didn't show up, she said "would you love me if I was anything but what I am?", which is not a clear answer at all. It suggests that Calypso thinks that Davy loves her BECAUSE she is harsh and changing as the sea, which in turn is the reason why she didn't show up. Perhaps she simply didn't feel like it at the time, but would have shown up the next time if only Davy hadn't abandoned his task and betrayed her in the meantime. Love is confusing. Love with a harsh and changing godess is even worse.

Question: What would be the difference in prequel storyline and plot if Calypso failed to meet Davy multiple times vs failing to meet him the first time before Davy got angry and did what he did? If it makes no difference, then there's no real need to waste time on it any longer, is there? Might as well continue with the dinner scene between Jack and Edwards.

Maybe she meant would he love her if she wasn't all powerful? Is it her he's attracted to or her power? Maybe it is her unpredictable nature that he is drawn to.

I agree, and I think that was something that was decided early on. I think we are still operating in the mode of the first movie that worked so well and which the sequels diverted from.

That is the one thing we should not forget: This film should be, above anything else, an all-out fun pirate film. Therefore there should be:
1] Pirates
2] Beautiful ships
3] Cool sea scenes
4] Interesting exotic locations
5] TREASURE
6] Swordfights
7] Ship-to-ship battles
8] HEROICS!
9] FUN!!!

Also we decided that this film should be a lot more cheerful and bright than the two PotC sequels. Therefore I would like to actually tone down the pace a bit and take the time to show off the various locales, settings, ships, etc. Also the colours should be very vibrant, rather than the dark colours so apparent in many modern films. Beautiful blue seas, very green jungles, white sandy beaches, etc. Also Jack's pirating antics should be enjoyable and funny and not too serious. Of course his being forced into piracy is somewhat serious, but during the French pirate Mexican treasure escapade, there should just be a lot of fun. Also Jack playing the VOC vs the EITC could be used to much comic effect.

The deal with Jones would be a bit more serious again and due to the lighthearted atmosphere that came before, would be a complete surprise. The final ship-to-ship battle would also be somewhat more serious; in my head I even picture it beginning in the dark of night and as Jack's changes of escape improve, the sun is rising in the background and the whole battle scene will be bathed in a golden light until Jack managed to escape and sail away into the sunrise. Then the final scene of the film will be somewhat ironic as Jack sets out on the expedition that will lose him his ship. But it should be set as a somewhat lighthearted "we've got another advanture coming up" kind of scene. Of course when the end credits have ended and we see Jack stealing Annamaria's boat, the audience left in the theater will be left wondering what the hell happened to require Jack to steal a dinghy, which would generate interest in seeing the next film. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />

Note: The above assumes that the audience has not yet seen CotBP, because I think we should make this film with the notion in mind that one day people will be watching them in order.

Or at least: That is what Calypso seems to think. Perhaps Davy actually loves to hate Calypso or something like that? After all: love and hatred can lie quite close to each other and there is a very thin line between them. Perhaps if Calypso had been just plain nice and lovable, Davy would never have loved her at all.

I vote we add comely wenches to that list and much witty banter and rum swigging.

On another note:
If Davy Jones was attracted to Calypso because of her unpredictable (and mentally unstable...) nature then does this not weaken the sense that he has somehow become corrupted since taking over the Dutchman? It would suggest that Jones was always a vengeful and cruel man and that some sort of betrayal or cooling of his relationship with Calypso was not the cause of his behaviour.
DMC seemed to imply that Jack had been intimate with Tia Dalma...a reason for Jones to dislike him so much?

No reason why Davy couldn't have been a scoundrel in life and it translated well when he morphed into what he is now. If Jack had been intimate with Tia that would drive Jones nuts, but we have come up also with a few reasons why Jones would be angry with Jack.

Agreed. Just look at the kind of character that Jones is. Would he be attracted to someone who was just ordinary?

I think Tia in AWE said something like "Many things you were, Davy Jones, but never cruel." Therefore: Davy was not a cruel man before he got cursed.

True, but that could have been the way she saw him, and though he may not have been cruel for the most part before he was cursed, the curse itself may have amplified some of his darker traits. In any case, just throwing in some variables here.

I just read a funny thought on the <a href="http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0449088/board/nest/88122492?p=2" target="_blank">IMDb:</a><!--quoteo--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE</div><div class='quotemain'><!--quotec-->I've always assumed that the mark Jack left on Beckett was making him a eunuch, hence Jack's remarks throughout the movies of Will and the like being eunuchs. It would make sense with why Beckett is out for Jack's death so badly.<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
I don't think we should be going that route though. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/whistling.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":wp" border="0" alt="whistling.gif" />

Maybe not. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" /> That would definitely explain though why Beckett is after all pirates and especially Jack, other than the obvious reason that pirates keep attacking his ships. I think we have given Beckett enough of a motive for wanting Jack dead. There has to be some reason why Jack keeps asking people if they are eunuchs, though.

Jack is Jack, remember? Some things are just inexplicable. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />
