I too feel the same as Pieter does about what Jack does... but then again, he isn't Admiral Norrington so it may have to go as is to keep his character.
But perhaps we could portray Jack as such... out of character... so that when he turns pirate, we see his personality transform with him.<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->That sounds pretty good, actually. While Jack is in the employ of the EITC, he will try to act like a ship's officer should, being all stiff and such. Of course that is against his nature, so he will have some decidedly odd quirks. But really he needs to make a good impression on Mercer and Edwards; otherwise he might be done for. So he just tries to act the part he is supposed to play. Could make for some interesting scenes. Then when Jack becomes a full-out pirate, we see him loosening up and becoming more the Jack we know. This would also be interesting to the audience: When they first meet Jack in this film, he will not act like the Jack we know, he will look different than the Jack we know, he just sounds like the Jack we know. So that should generate some interest in the audience.

I recently found out that you are doin' some brainstorming and some writing of PotC 4.
Im also a fan of the franchise and I would like to help (in any way posible).<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->Hello Gunsmith! Welcome to the forum! Be sure to check out the thread index in the first post of the thread. That should help. I will update the index soon, because a lot of recent stuff is missing from it. Also I think it'd be a good idea to psot the whole script so far somewhere on a web page.

I updated the thread index on the first page, adding more links to notable posts, links to useful sites and I uploaded the script so far <a href="http://www.s31clan.com/privateftps/pietersmods/others/potc_hoist_the_colours.htm" target="_blank">here</a>. Not sure if it's the correct version; I will update it as soon as Mercer sends me the current updated version.

Gentlemen & Officers,

Some good work continuing on the plot in favour of all the points made to date.

Must say the idea of seeing a fleet unfurling and preparing for sea would be stirring stuff.

Don't care where they are going or why, it would just be a hugely impressive backdrop. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/me.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="me.gif" />

I updated <a href="http://www.s31clan.com/privateftps/pietersmods/others/potc_hoist_the_colours.htm" target="_blank">this</a> page with the most up-to-date version of the script thanks to Mercer.

Very good, Pieter. Better than posting it over and over again. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/me.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="me.gif" />

If you guys think its a good idea, then we can go with it. I wouldn't like the idea of Jack <b><i>being</i></b> all stiff and formal as if this is the way he was and then later turned into the Jack Sparrow we know. However, if as you suggest, Pieter, he is <b><i>acting</i></b> that way and his real personality slips out every once in a while, I think that would work.

Yep, i can see that working. I tried to keep alot of his reckless behavior out of the script, if you noticed. Also Old Salt i need you to add those little snippets on my script like you always to, or you might just want to re-arrange it. I need people to tell me what need be fixed, how to do it, what you think should be in its place, and i need it ASAP!! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="icon_wink.gif" />

No problem, Mercer. You frame the portrait and we'll all help fill it in. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/me.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="me.gif" /> I wasn't able to get on much today but I'll add on to it soon.

Ahoy mateys,

Thx for that update on the first page. I really needed that. It's kinda hard to go over all 30 pages.
The script so far is awsome. While I was reading it I could picture it all in my head. Maybe it needs to be a little more detailed. But that can be done latter on.

Had this crazy idea... how 'bout putting this as the beggining of the film:
- Jack Sparrow was born during a typhoon on a pirate ship near the Indian coast. (just before stuff you have written)
(I read this on that PotC time line that you have putted on the first page so I thought that this could be cool begging of the film)

One question: Is ''<i>Pieter's Temporary Draft''</i> the one we follow to write the script.

PS.
Sorry If my english is bad. Im from Croatia.

Nothing is set in stone. My temporary draft pretty much sums up what plans we have, but any alternate thoughts are also most welcome. That plot outline if also a bit outdated. "Thomas Norton" has changed into "Post-Captain Nathaniel Edwards" and his personal storyline has also changed a bit: He will now side with Jack during the final battle. Also there are thoughts to add a Mexican treasure search episode in the middle of the film. You can also check my <a href="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/index.php?s=&showtopic=10925&view=findpost&p=219217" target="_blank">Film Story and Length Outline</a> which is a bit more up-to-date, but less expansive.

As for Jack being born in the first scene: It is a funny story, but I don't see how it can fit in the film. We deliberately want to not try and explain too much, but keep a lot of mystery to the character of Jack. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />

Ooooooh... I just saw this general layout.

Cool. I see this first part is finished (more or less... maybe just some script-editing)

So what are we on now? The Africa landing or anything that pops in my mind?

If you read the script up until now, we are currently working on writing the voyage from London to Africa. But you can also post any other thoughts you might come up with.

I agree with Pieter, though that is funny and probably would be a fitting way for Jack to have come into the world. Keep contributing any thoughts you come up with, they are most welcome. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/me.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="me.gif" />

I just thought of a clever idea we have overlooked several times. Remember in COBP when Jack was being hanged the announcer said:<i>...impersonating an officer in the Spanish Royal Navy, impersonating a cleric of the Church of England...</i> We should TOTALLY show Jack impersonating both of those in the movie, it would be H-I-L-A-R-I-O-U-S.

I think we talked about that somewhere in this thread. It would be pretty funny. As Pieter pointed out, we shouldn't try to show everything that had been alluded to at one time or another in the other films, but maybe showing Jack quickly running away dressed as a cleric with a crowd chasing him would make for a funny scene.

Alas, my children uhm this is the day that you ALMOST captured CLERIC JACK SPARROW! May God be with me <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />

This timeline from Wikipedia is very relevant for us.

I found this there and you didnt mention it (i guess): <i>Jack encountered Jolly Roger, infamous Caribbean pirate who swore vengeance against him, after he become undead, blaming Jack for that</i>
How bout that? It could be used in a sequel if it's ever going to be made.

btw...
<i>...impersonating an officer in the Spanish Royal Navy, impersonating a cleric of the Church of England.</i>
Very good one... Just picture him doin' it. LoL

One question about imprisoning slaves in Africa... how does Jack know where to pick up the ''cargo''?
And another one... 15 minutes of movie about their voyage to Africa, is that a little too much? What are they going to do? Encounter some pirates maybe?
________________________________________________________

i suggested that idea first. glad it got brought back up. are you sure that jolly roger bit isn't from the comic books?

<!--quoteo(post=221185:date=Nov 12 2007, 10:45 PM:name=Mercer)--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Mercer @ Nov 12 2007, 10:45 PM) </div><div class='quotemain'><!--quotec--><i>...impersonating an officer in the Spanish Royal Navy, impersonating a cleric of the Church of England...</i><!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->This could be part of the Mexican treasure escapade. Jack needs information on the location of the treasure and this information can be found in the church library. He impersonates a cleric of the Church of England to try and get the Spanish monks to give him the information. He does get the information, but things go haywire and the scene ends up with Jack in monk's clothes being chased by an angry mod. Sounds funny. But like Old Salt says: We shouldn't explain too much. Although this particular story would be very amusing and could indeed work in the story.

Personally I think that AWE should be the most supernaturally charged of the films with the prequel being virtually devoid of the supernatural and an AWE sequel beginning in a supernatural world, but ending in a realistic industrialized world.

This takes some time, of course. People don't become friendly in a short time.

I think we have all pretty much agreed that our prequel script is going to be based on what is in the films, the scripts and anything Ted Elliott and Terry Rossio have said themselves on their website or in interviews. We pretty much ignore stories from comic books and computer games.
