Pirates won't start

Pirates has encountered a problem and needs to close.

That's what I get whatever I try.. tried reinstalling, disabling sound cards, updated sound and video drivers and reinstalled dx9.0c, started pirates on only one cpu (hyperthreading), and I'm totally out of ideas now.

Whatever I do, it doesn't even start up, just crashes immediately.

system specs are P4 3 GHz, 1GB ram, sb audigy, ati x800, win xp, dx9.0c.

other current games (like halflife2 or doom3) run perfectly fine, just pirates seems to not want to start.

any help or ideas are greatly appreciated.

after almost giving up on the issue, I tried one more thing, and this actually helped!

I `de-installed` dx9 using the directx eradicator, which reverts to dx 8.1 after a reboot, and then reinstalled dx9.0c from the pirates cd1, and horayyy, it works <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />)

Thats good news mate, i think alot of people might get alot of help by doing that <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" /> <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/onya.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="onya.gif" />

i did the same thing: uninstalled directx to ver. 8.1 using directx eradicator. Then I tried reinstalling directx 9.0c but it won't install!!! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_eek.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="icon_eek.gif" /> It brings up the install screen, has me accept the user agreement, and then when i click install, it doesn't install anything and it just says "Components successfully installed" any suggestions?

and yes i rebooted after i used directx eradicator

A friend of mine has the same problem(with the DX i mean). You could try to defragment your HDD's o search for a install.log of DX but i dought you will find any thing.
