Playing Alexus Add-On

Do you still play it Jack? I am at 20 level of my experiences already. It is quite tough. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/buds.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":drunk" border="0" alt="buds.gif" />

<img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/hi.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":gday" border="0" alt="hi.gif" /> there, matey,

Yeah, I'm still cruising along very nicely with it (although I've just recently switched back to the Build to test some of the new mods and fixes). <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sailr.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":sail" border="0" alt="sailr.gif" /> Spent a fair amount of time translating all the interfaces, RPG texts and Quest book texts, etc, for my own SLiB game, which has helped as my Russian is minimal. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/bookish.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":mm" border="0" alt="bookish.gif" /> <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/type_1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":nk" border="0" alt="type_1.gif" /> Anticipating the English translation from the SLiB team soon.

Aaarrgghh.... it's a bloody tough game <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/whippa.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":whipa" border="0" alt="whippa.gif" /> but, Aaarrgghh.... it's a bloody good game! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/me.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="me.gif" />

See you off the coast of Isla del Muerto.... Aaarrgghh <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/keith.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":keith" border="0" alt="keith.gif" />

Cheers <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

Level 13; I've been having a bit of luck capturing a lot of corvettes, and they do the trick though they sap my abilities something fierce.

Huge problem though: I can't hire officers anymore. The limit seems to be lower than in the standard game, which I can live with; but even now when some spaces are freed up (by my officers meeting unfortunate fates) I can't hire anyone new. I always end up telling them I have a full complement (полный комплемент), even though I'm down to only two officers in my ranks. Help!

Hi, Alan. I can hire only two officers too. You should have mainly hired the first mate so as you could capture ships and a good officer in navigation so as your penalties would be as much as eliminated. And besides the officers are quite expensive here. My characteristics are now like this. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/danse1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":dance" border="0" alt="danse1.gif" />

[attachment=264:attachment]

I figured it out.. can't have a ship higher than your skill, one that saps your abilities; I got a class 4 ship and everything's fine. So now I just keep it around, assigned to one of my officers, and switch to it before entering a town so I'm not penalized with store prices and everything.

Found out a great trick... Martinique is under attack right now by the Spanish; I'm neutral to both. When I arrange a smuggling op at the shore, then get in my boat and there're the three huge French ships waiting to snatch me up, there is ALSO the Spanish blockade of even larger ships waiting to snatch them up. Between the two of us we weaken them enough for me to capture several of the big emerald beauties.

What can you tell me about the patents for nations? I haven't earned one yet, no matter how many tasks I do for the governors; when I was able to buy a few, I don't even know what happened... apparently I can only have one at a time, and when I fire on any ship after getting it I lose it and then France wants my head?

Also crummy: It may just be because I'm using a ship that wholly outclasses me, but I can board a tiny ship that I've gunned down to only 6 guys (won't go any lower), and that dirty half-dozen still kills 100 of my 200 men in the boarding action?

<img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/hi.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":gday" border="0" alt="hi.gif" /> there Alan,

I'm pretty sure the number of officers that you can command is directly related to your level of authority (Leadership), so that yeah, if you're commanding ships well above your class well then that's going to reduce your authority level considerably.

I can't tell you anything about patents yet because I haven't tried to get one so far.

I think your crew's combat efficiency and morale is influenced by your Leadership and possibly also by your Medium Fencing skills (not sure about that one). So once again if all your skills are drastically reduced by attempting to command ship classes well above your sailing skill, then it's going to have a major negative impact on your crew as well (hit points, I think).

I've got a couple of really excellent corvettes now but it's just too difficult to really do anything with them at the moment so I've got them both laid up at Port Royale (talk to the Harbour Master) for the time being. I sometimes command a vessel one class above my skill (negatives aren't too bad) but anymore than that and all my skills are reduced too much, often down to 1 (if the class difference is great) which is basically useless.

If your skills are down and you're now short on officers, these skill reductions are also going to impact on your crew wages, trade prices and gunnery unless you've got a good First Mate, Quartermaster and Gunner to help you out.

I've struggled with the same problems Alan, and these are just my observations, so I hope they help you out there.

All the best.

Cheers, matey. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

You can use only one patent at same time. Patent will be taken back if you fire on friendly ship to nation of patent
Patent give you ability to take nation career quest (in 1.05.1002 only English or Spanish quests) and your hero can be commandor and admiral of nation of patent.
But be ware - you can take only one nation career quest by the one game.
After you passing first task other nation give no quest to you

Jack: I figured as much, thanks. My strategy now is sailing around with two big frigates, and whenever I capture a good ship I helm it myself then sell it for a tartane first thing when I enter a port, so I have the proper skills for buying & selling and replacing killt officers; then when I'm ready for another fight I swap the tartane with a first mate, then remove him from it to free up the space for another capture. Level 17 or 18 now...

also i had a thought: what is the joke behind nicolas sharp`s kocherg? i should think a spatula would make more sense, a là the roots of 'buccaneer,' bucanier, closer to barbecuing than swashbuckling...

nicolas sharp`s kocherg it's just a joke from team <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" /> nothing more. But you can use it as weapon <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />

<img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/hi.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":gday" border="0" alt="hi.gif" /> there matey.

I posted this elsewhere, but hopefully this will help posting here, too.

bweh heh heh, level 26, sailing with two huge red battleships... about to try and sack some towns if I can only recruit enough sailors.

Question though: These mothers are just too slow. Is there a key or some setting to increase the speed of time beyond 2.5? I've tried all the keys but nothing does it; in the Build mod, you can speed time up to 30x, which helps you capture a big nice juicy ship when both vessels' masts are gone and you don't want to wait all week for your ship to get close enough.

<img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/hi.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":gday" border="0" alt="hi.gif" /> there, Alan.

I use the + and - buttons on the number pad. You can get up to x10 time in a battle and x15 at sea. You can also take it down to x.75 and x.50 which can be really useful when you're in map mode hunting for enemy ships.

I'm just getting back into SLiB Mod after several weeks away. I'm about level 18 I think from memory, got a great crew and some excellent ships. Love this game. Looking forward to the English version though, cause I struggle with the more complex dialogue of the quests.

Cheers matey <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

Hi, mates. I am on the 26 level now but I still don´t have any letter of mark. I hope I will buy an English one at Nevis. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/danse1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":dance" border="0" alt="danse1.gif" /> <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/w00t.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":woot" border="0" alt="w00t.gif" />

oh awesome, thanks guys. i've given up capturing good ships several times because it was just taking too long to crawl my way over to them. had to sink the beauties instead... <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad.gif" />

i keep trying to capture a мановар but even when i grape-shot the crew down to only a few dozen and go at it with a battleship of 618 men, they reduce my crew too far for me to capture it. Even when i go after a ship with like six men left they manage to kill off most of my guys... and i am level 27 (and a hero, and i got like four million dollars, heh)... this sucks. do i just need some higher skill somewhere or is there no way to preserve my losses?

...IF i could press my slaves into the crew during the take-stuff-after-boarding screen that would solve my problem. but really i don't think i should have to kill off every single sailor in the enemy ship... the stock game and the other mods don't make you do that.

<img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/hi.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":gday" border="0" alt="hi.gif" /> there Alan.

I think I remember reading in the Sea Legend FAQ that you can never actually reduce a ships crew to zero from cannon fire. It suggested that there will always be a certain percentage of the crew that are not visible/vulnerable during sea battles, i.e. that they are below decks. This seems quite reasonable to me in that it would be a rare thing indeed to be able annihilate an entire crew through cannon fire. So even if your telescope tells you that 4 crew members remain on the enemy ship, there is likely to be a certain percentage of the original maximum (what this % is I don't know) below decks to defend the ship.

Is your sailing skill up to handling a battleship? ...because i find that whenever I've commanded above my class, my crew cops a pasting in boarding actions due to my skill penalties.

Good hunting there, matey.

Hey AB <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/hi.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":gday" border="0" alt="hi.gif" />

I read in the FAQ something about the "floating gun bug" (because some female models don't have gun_belt locators). If that is still a problem you could try the models in Pieter's modpack: our modelers have for some time added gun_belt and blade_belt locators to all models. (including towngirlXX.gm, nobleman.gm etc)

Keep up the excellent work <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/me.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="me.gif" />

I already told that to AlexusB. I thought he said he downloaded the files from the Post Build 12 modpack, so with a bit of luck, the Russian mod will have the fixed files as well soon.

So much the better <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />
