Ahoy thar Mateys.....found this, and thought it interesting. I have checked my copy here of the engine.ini file and this isnt in it.....was it ever know?, was it ever added?.....does there exist an Editor (gosh forbid) for POTC!!

<!--quoteo--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE</div><div class='quotemain'><!--quotec-->Well, I did finally find the command to start the built-in editor for Seadogs and Pirates of the Caribbean, sadly it seems Akella did away or changed the command needed to start the editor. Gonna have to find out what the new command is.

Just for everyones info, if you have the original Seadogs or Pirates of the Caribbean(Technically Seadogs 2, but snapped up by Disney at a time when they wanted more PR for the movie), you can edit the engine.ini

Add to it at the very top this following line:

CORE_MODULE tools_launcher

Start the game.

You should start up in an editing mode, that allows you to do all kinds of interesting things.

Hope this helps someone find the newer internal editing tools if they exist at all.

<b>Pieter</b> did you realize this can be done....and I hope I'm not the only one to realize this, and this could have hugh ramifications for modding and stuff if true!!!!

I tried it for stock PotC and it didn't do anything. A search of the entire file folder system for the game didn't turn up any match for a file containing "tools" or "CORE_MODULE". It did find "tool" but was part of a C file. Perhaps the original SeaDogs had it.

Hook

Yes <b>Hook</b>....<b>Cap'n Drow </b> got back to me...he reinstalled both Seadogs and POTC and checked it out, Seadogs responded....POTC did not.....He was going on some old notes he had kicking around from his Seadogs/POTC days, was trying to find stuff/cheats/things that would work...might work in AOP. That was one he found and it said that the editor worked for both, but this was on his notes.....it was suggested that Maybe the Editor, that you had to drop into Seadogs might work with the POTC game....remember that POTC was originally slated to be called Seadogs II...which never bore fruit. He will test this later and get back to me. He is actually looking forward to the experiment, because Theoretically it should could would work.

Anyway it stands to reason that the Editor was the same, but Disney/Bethesda ripped it out as part of the removal of Seadogs things and the reinserting of POTC stuff which wasnt much. Also the boys on the Age Of Pirates side of the Forum are quickly coming to the conclusions that almost everything that works in POTC will also work in AOP....and maybe with the addition of One file, is almost the same game....they are confident that POTC is the stepping stone into the next best Pirate Simulation....AOP. The only thing I can tell you at the moment is that they have a "supermod" right now that drops in a "Program" folder into AOP. This gives them the ability to mod the game.....and the more they find the more like POTC it is...with prettier graphics, albeit the characters do look more arcadish.....at least the two main ones. I state this because so far the only negative reports mostly from the Russian game was the fact that there was no Program folder, so things were hidden away too discourage modding, and hence everyone said it wasnt going to work, and wasnt worth the effort. This is the same as Blitzkrieg, another game I have......you place your work in the data folder as a ".pak file" and it supercedes the main game data file and you have your mod working fine. So I guess by placing a Program folder into the game AOP....it allows them to mod things and it works similiar to POTC and the Modded work takes ahh...the word Lead comes to mind.......but priority I guess. Im not in the position too compare yet but if that editor works.....it would be worth it, and so far the three games have so much in common that its almost as if akella hasnt done much in the way of changes, more like milking the game for all its worth....except for the prettier graphics between each of the games as it got a little better.

I will try that, as I have the org.Seadogs on my computer but never
play it. It's a bit old and crude and ofcourse the files are in gibberish
just like AoP. Playlogic would have done itself a lot of good to
puplish the game in plain text, this attracts Modders and a lot of
interest in the game! PotC is a good excample!!!!

This is an old thread from Elaybe when a lot O' modd'n was going on for Sea Dogs. Hayredden Barbossa wrote

Go to your Sea Dogs installation folder and open engine.ini in your favourite plain text editor such as Notepad. Change the line

core module core

to

core module tools_launcher

and save the file. If you wish to let the setting be permanent, make your engine.ini file read only but you won't be able to alter your sound/display settings in that case.

Only the character editor, quest editor and ship editor are functional. Recall this did work for SeaDogs, its how I used to put in cheats a long time ago.

Sorry about misunderstanding. What I meant was it works
for Seadogs2. I've got it on my computer and I did what
you wrote in your post, startet the game and after that all
the file turned into plain english. Not what I call gibberish(little squares etc)
You can view files in the windows texteditor! I haven't done it with
AoP, but will have a go at it at a later date. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />

Are you sure you mean Sea Dogs 2? Because Sea Dogs 2 is PotC. Sea Dogs, however, is not PotC. I don't believe Sea Dogs uses the same engine as PotC. However, AoP does use about the same engine as PotC, only a slightly updated version.

YOU are right it's SEADOGS,the game way back from
the year 2000! My Mistake! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/me.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="me.gif" />

No need to gripe too much about the lack of that editor in PotC. The SD editor was a typical Akella product: awkward and halffinished. The only thing that really worked was the setting of characters in town and with their ships near islands.

The editor was meant to be part of the online feature of SD. Which was also never realized.

PotC WITHOUT editor offers a lot more modding possibilities that SD WITH. That's why I quit SD for PotC in the first place.
