POTC graphic engine question.

PotC uses Direct3D with DirectX9 included in the install. It SAYS DX8, but it's DX9. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="

Yeah, that whole DX8 / DX9 thing is confusing.
Here's the explanation (AFAIK):
There are currently three levels of pixel/vertex shader support:
Direct3D 7 - none at all (for GF2 and below class cards)
Direct3D 8 - P/V Shader 1.0, for GF3 and 4 era cards
Direct3D 9 - P/V Shader 2.0, for `current-gen` (GF 6800, ATI X800) cards. May also be for GF5 and ATI 9600/9800 as well, I don't recall.
All three modes, and a variety of submodes, are supported in DX9. POTC requires DX9, but uses D3D 8-/level/ rendering.<img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/w00t.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="
