PotC just won't run

Hi, I'm new here, hello to everyone. Was very excited when I first stumbled on this mod, as it's been years since I played this game and never knew of any mods for it.
Anyway, I installed the game, and it won't run regardless of whether I use the build mod or not.
I start the game, the 'Storm Engine 2' Box loads up and starts to load all the modules, then the game loads for a split second. I hear a noise like the beginning of a video, then the game just hangs. I have to Alt+Ctrl+Del to get out of the game if its not windowed.

specs:
xp32 pro
2x 8800gtx
q6600

My install of windows is only a month old or so also, and I have barely any programs actually installed on the computer.
I had a theory that it was the game video causing it to hang, so I tried removing that but it makes no difference.

I'd really appreciate any help a lot since I'm aching to play this game again <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />

Cheers, Dan.

// EDIT :

Scratch that, I seemed to have fixed the problem by uninstalling CCCP Codecs with FFDShow. Now the game starts up fine.

read the FAQ, if you please. we'd rather avoid the usual questions. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

Glad to hear you got the game running anyway. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/doff.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":doff" border="0" alt="doff.gif" />

Thanksz for the responses anyway <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />
BEen playing the mod, and let me say, hats off to you guys its great fun. This is how the game should have been <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

Mate, one of the first things I did was read the FAQ, and at no point did I see any mention of Codecs causing issues, but I had a niggling in the back of my mind that it could be the problem and it was <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" /> It had something to do with the settings I have in FFDShow and the settings in a packaged set of codecs I use called the CCCP. Anyway, if for some reason I've been absolutely blind and the answer in fact is in the FAQ, then im sorry <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

Gonna go find me another ManOWar for my little fleet <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />

I don't think that's in the FAQ. Actually, Morgan, you might want to add that! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/razz.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":razz" border="0" alt="razz.gif" />

it's not a FAQ. this is the first time i have seen the specific problem. i actually said you should look in the FAQ because of other questions you might have.

So any chance you might add a note about that CCCP Codecs with FFDShow program to the FAQ? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />

okay. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" /> and i'll add anything else that's related to the game not starting up to it as well when i meet it.

<img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/w00t.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":woot" border="0" alt="w00t.gif" />

<img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/me.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="me.gif" />

Then separate it in posts and use the direct-to-post links to link to them through the first post's thread index. You can repost your FAQ so that you won't have trouble with posts by other people inbetween and I'll pin the new thread and unpin the old one. We can then change the old one in a "post your question" thread and keep the new one as the actual FAQ thread which only you would then post in. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

i've been thinking of a system where there would be a question-asking thread which had links to other threads which would hold the other questions. each thread would hold a seperate group.

Sounds interesting. If you want to set that up, I'll help you with sticking the main thread. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yes" border="0" alt="yes.gif" />

i'll see if i can fix it up. i hope opening the forum multiple times doesn't trigger some security check of me being online multiple times.

I always have the forum open in multiple Internet Explorer windows; works fine. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

okay, i'm working on it. three or four new topics coming up. although it might be better to just post three of them. however, you could also just sticky the main topic. wait, rewind:

i'll change the current FAQ into the main topic. questions will be asked there. the other (unpinned) topics will contain the questions. they don't need to be pinned because everyone would otherwise just go to those straight away. although it would make it easier for others if they WERE pinned. what do you think?
