Well I'm still hoping on the PA island........But who even knows anymore...The PMT is....well lets not go there.........

SeaDogs with addon??! I bought Seadogs1 after having played POTC and met the build because i thought that the original game should be as great or even more than this POTC, and ive been playing 'clean' SD since then. Are you saying that there's something like the build for SeaDofs 1??! And where it is?? Heh. I JUST (finally!) got SeaDogs - and have been messing around with it - have not installed any mods yet but am looking forward to it when I'm finished (soon) with my Fred Bob quest...
 
`Ahoy-hoy`. I wanted to congratulate the team on Build 11, it's tupping brilliant; I've been playing it all night and it really breathes new life into my new favourite game. I'll keep checking for updates and hopefully new versions. And as I begin to learn C++ through trial and error here, I'll submit any mods I think are decent.
Also, as I've been playing, there are a lot of additions to your build I think would do nicely:
- A blacksmith's shop as a location in many towns, where you can have a sword and maybe gun's stats improved. I wondered if I'd see these in the build when I noticed all the `worn-out` swords. We all have sword designs we like best, and I'm sure we'd enjoy being able to tweak their stats `in-game` so we don't have to discard them for the next more powerful one we find.<br>
- More variety of weapons, like axes (I keep seeing them on the walls of places, so why can't they be usable?) and muskets. A musket with a bayonette would be a fun `dual-purpose` weapon and equipping soldiers with them might be more accurate.
- I like all the items that add to your stats, so how about more of those. Like pets, like a parrot; how can you be a pirate without a parrot? Make variations like colourful macaws and parrots with eye patches, or skeleton parrots for the skeleton pirates. They could add to your luck or your crew's morale, maybe help you pickpocket (a monkey could do that, too).
- Skin ideas: More pirate skeletons, one of my favourite parts of the game, like a captain in a full shabby coat; and more lady pirates besides Danielle. The other lady skins don't look quite right when you play as them. Those two famous real lady pirates, I forget their names - maybe you could encounter someone like them as a sidequest.
- Themepacks, finally, like Princess Bride characters... play as Wesley, the Dread Pirate Roberts, at the helm of the Revenge.
I'll try and work on any of these that I can and tell you what I come up with. Thanks again for all the work you put into Build 11.<b></b><b></b><b></b>

Great, another budding modder! This is wonderful! Your idea about the blacksmith is a good one - something I think which has been discussed but so far as I know, no one is working on at the present. It would be a great `add-on` to the game!

I think I have part of the blacksmith shop thing figured out... There are enough rooms already `in-game` with little fireplaces that would stand in well, we'd just have to 'link' them to a door, as with Veruckt's QC brothel and shipyard. I'll peek at the code to see how that's done. And I'll look at the code for the tailor shop, since that must have been written up from scratch (very very nice piece of work).

But how to actually improve your weapon's stats? Would you simply upgrade from a badly worn saber to a good one, for a price, or is there a way to tweak the individual stats manually? Maybe the attributes for the weapons could be rewritten in a more flexible, `open-ended` way.

And the musket idea I'd love to see... could it be done, a weapon you fire AND take a stab with?
 
I think the musket idea is something that will not be able to be done with PotC simply because AFAIK we can't hack into the .ani files that control the movement of the models... Muskets require both hands to use and fire with a different movement of the arms to fire and stab... I don't think it's possible to make the models move that way because we can't alter the .ani files...

Want a real task to dig into? We know how to import new SHIP models into the game, but are unable (thus far) to figure out how to import new CHARACTER models into the game... I'm toying with some hex editors and .gm model viewers I downloaded from around this site... All the models, ships and people, are just a 3d hexagonal frame files covered by a skin file, right? So isn't there software to design a 3d hex frame? I don't know of any but I'd wager there is. I also noticed, `in-game` and through the model viewer ("gm view"), a lot of characters are assembled of the same parts. You'll recognize heads and bodies swapped on some generic characters. And I know some of you people have combined character elements into "new" guys, so how is it done?
 
...OK, so as I'm doing all this toying, I just can't figure out how to edit the appearance of a .tga or .tx or anything. All the tutorials refer to converters, like Rexman's, but the programs don't recognize tga/tx to be able to convert them into anything editable.
 
Alan, the editing of the models is done with a program like 3D Max or Maya 4.5 - particularly this one because there is an `Akella-made` plugin for the .gm file format for Maya 4.5 ONLY.

Also, the tx files need to be converted to .dds file format which can be read by Photoshop or PaintShopPro or GIMP with the proper plugin.

Halp! I can edit the .dds files and convert them back now, but I'm screwing up somewhere... I guess when I save. Either they don't look right when I open them again (in PSP), or they don't show up in the game at all. I reckon the trouble is the settings when I save them. Does the save options table linked below look familiar to anyone, and do you know which settings I ought to choose? Thanks...
