PotC Start-Up

Hi,

I just installed potc to try out your new mod version.
Problem is, that it won't start at all - no matter what version I try. The engine-splash-screen shows up, everything seems fine, then the screen gets dark and that small rotating perl-thing in the lower right corner shows up, spins a second and disappears. Then I can hear the beginning of that Disney Intro, but that's where it freezes, no ctd no nothing, just dark.
To me this looks like a problem with an installed codec, but before I deinstall all my codecs - I will so much hate this and curse this stupid box all the way through it - I thought I might ask around here, if anybody has a more 'elegant' solution to this.

The usual specs: WinXP SP2, all drivers latest versions, amd, ati 9600, audigy 2

Much thanks in advance....

Is your Stockgame installing and running ok?
Once you've checked that to be ok, only than follow up with the Mods.
Otherwise you could have a crook download! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/bookish.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":mm" border="0" alt="bookish.gif" />

No, it is not. But it used to, when I was playing Build 12, since then I didn't change anything major in my system. So I don't think the game itself is damaged.

ok, back to basics (helps whenever a problem is elusive)

How did you install?
What mods in what order . . .
<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->

I think I somehow failed to explain my problem. The point is, that it makes no difference in what order I install the mods or if I install them at all. The game - in its basic form, freshly istalled from CD - does not run, it shows the above (post 1) mentioned problems.
When I said, i was playing build 12, I meant a year or so ago, that probably was irritating to mention. However, as said, I didn't change anythig in my system configuration since. After intensively browsing through this forum, I thing I'll just try everything that comes to my mind, including re-installing a couple of times - this seems to have helped a lot of people here.

But thanks so far for your concern.

well, that would mean that you don't have the proper computer for it. most likely the video card.

I can rule that out, since i already played the game on that very same system a while back.

Problem solved.
Since I hate uncompleted threads, here my solution - just in case anybody ever encounters a similar solution.

Like suspected in the beginning, the problem was caused by a codec-conflict. I deinstalled some codecs, which - as far as I know - were not always working properly with wmv, like XVID and ffdshow, et voilá: It works.

Thx for helping

Glad to hear you got it working! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/doff.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":doff" border="0" alt="doff.gif" />
