Hi all,

yes! I`m back!!! Tremble before me, landlubbers!!!

Anyway, back to topic. I like AoP best because it`s the most realistic game. You can ignore the very dull and unnecessary main quest and act all time as a captain of your own fate. Let the game take you on a career of your own choosing. AFAIK from russian sites the main quest was grafted on as an afterthought, Akella planned to have this totally open-ended. Also, advancement in faction rank is very slow which also adds realism.
That said, AoP is still a beta even when fully patched/modded.

I look forward to the mods supposedly being in the making as there is immense potential. Playlogic unfortunately seem to have abandoned this game and their customers.

Sea Dogs, even unmodded, are great. Absolutely worth playing even after all these years and with mods incredibly satisfying.

POTC Builds are very rich in detail and atmosphere. Main quest is just a chore, I`ve done it once and now I never go to visit the english governor to activate it. I would like an option for switching it off completely and more development into national quests/career lines and historicity. Remove Portugal, install Denmark and the Duchy of Courland as nations. The Duchy of Courland, a polish vassal, was a quite active trading and seafaring power in the XVII century and owned Tobago during the games time period. They could have really crazy and challenging quests as the aggressive underdog.

I finally acquired AoP and tried to do some playing with it. I must admit I can't quite figure everything out and the interfaces are really annoying me so far. Not to mention the game looks cartoony and seems to play very arcade-like. I was surprised to find that the main character running faster than his animation is also an issue in AoP; I thought that was a PotC-only problem caused by the addition of the AoP main characters to our game. So far I prefer PotC. That being said, the Storm 2.5 engine does offer some interesting potential, such as improved water graphics, lights on ships, memory for the worldmap, etc.

Why turn off the main quest when you can ignore it? I really don't understand why people want us to remove so much content that they can just ignore instead. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wacko.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="wacko.gif" />
As for adding the Danish: Well, we are doing some brainstorming on adding the Danish and United States. We'll see where we get with that. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dunno.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shrug" border="0" alt="dunno.gif" />

Hi Pieter,

I believe that those who want to make the main quest optional are those who look for a historically more correct pirate game.

It`s quite possible to ignore the main quest as you say and as I do, but I can`t help thinking what a smashing realistic pirate game we could have if all creativity used to link the game with the film was used to make the game as originally intended by Akella. I e a realistic historically fairly correct pirate game. AFAIK the filmmakers persuaded Akella to adapt what they had(and it was from a ready product) to the film. That`s the reason for the original POTC game being as it was, i e a public beta.

Some people really do like the movie tie-ins and some peope really don't. So we're trying to cater to both audiences.

For the PotC fans we are adding more movie tie-ins by rewriting the main quest to work as a prequel story (also adds a few surprises for those people who are bored with the original main quest) and adding the CotBP film quest, along with more film ships and characters.

But then for those people who want more realism instead, we are working on the Capture Colony mod, more differences between nations, realistic time settings (choose from 1600's to 1800's), improved ship and soldier models for the nations and we're also brainstorming on actually adding some more realistic nations, such as Denmark and the United States.

Also for those people who don't like the PotC films, all the additional movie tie-ins will only show up if you decide to play the main quest. And even if you do, you'll be offered a choice as to whether you do or don't want to play the main quest as a prequel to CotBP. So that should offer everybody plenty of new goodness.
