Printable island charts

dendee

Landlubber
Tired of testing, I took one evenings break and drew this. I like sailing about just for the sake of it, So I thought I should create me a Rutter <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" /> Here is the first chart. Available from our FTP (folder "Den Dee") is an archive containing 2 versions: color and black-and-white.

Don't judge my work too strictly - it's been a few years since I did graphics of this kind, so I lost my grip on that somewhat. I believe I'll improve over time, as I publish more charts. I'll be doing about one a week, so far I am planning on doing the default islands only (since the others are still work in progress). Land routes will of course also be included. The styles of the charts will differ, this one is a pirate island map, so no wonder it is in a pitiful condition...

Enjoy! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/keith.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":keith" border="0" alt="keith.gif" />

<b>NOTE: This is a thumbnail (a fairly big one though :p The archive on the FTP contains higher resolution files, suitable for printing on an A4 sheet.</b>

That's pretty neat! Makes me want to put a "Maps" button into the game that you can use to view maps from game-locations.

I think I remember there was a talk on the russian mod forums about island maps - buying them ingame and then browsing through them at will. Not sure if they are already implemented there (and not that I care either). But the idea is good, eh?

<img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/hi.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":gday" border="0" alt="hi.gif" /> there, matey,

Very nice work there indeed.

You're right, this is a feature of the SLiB Mod. Purchaseable maps of the Archipelago (several qualities), and maps of all the individual islands including all locations.

[attachmentid=526] [attachmentid=527]

It's a handy aid and cool feature of that game and I think would be a great addition to the Build, particularly if we can use some of your new artwork specific to the Build, rather than trying to adapt all the SLiB maps (there are differences).

Bring it on, I say!

Thanks for your high assessment of my humble skills :)

I'll bring it on for sure. And yes, my maps are based particularly on the Build mod. I am not going to adopt the russian mod maps - it is a pleasure to create new ones :) For the variable quality, I think this is overdoing it (remember the thread about "The Great Beancounters of the Caribbean"? :) )

One side question (to all), if I may? Currently, the image you see is hosted on a certain site. It will allow 300 views of the thread, after which my monthly bandwidth limit will run out. Could someone suggest a way of hosting images that I can direct-link to here without suffering possible limitations? Thanks in advance :)

Map looks good enough to me! It has a certain charm.

I've had good luck with <a href="http://www.photobucket.com" target="_blank">http://www.photobucket.com</a>, although I'm sure there's a monthly bandwidth limit there as well. For the purposes of thumbnails to show on the forum, save the file as a lower quality jpeg which won't take up quite so much bandwidth. For printing out or use in the game, put those files on the FTP site.

You might save yourself some effort by using the Lucida Handwriting font instead of hand lettering the maps.

Thanks for the suggestion on the photobucket. I'll check it out, hope it is more generous with its bandwidth. This particular "thumbnail" is a bit over 300K... I have already put the (1.5M each) printable versions on the FTP. As for the font... I'm glad to know my old designer habbits are still strong after all these years. This is not my handwriting, but rather a great font that I have dug up, spending a considerable ammount of time and effort (just a few minutes this time... but one <i>has</i> to know where to look, original search took me 3 hours) <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" />

Ahoy thar Pieter, this be a great idea, and so I'm bumping this thread back to the top so its dont get lost in thar shuffle......to be able to view maps in game, of places yew'd been tew is really a great idea, sort of like the Slib mod idea...maybe make maps a sellable commodity??

As well thar be a lot of questions floatin arounds the forums abouts "MAPS" lately.......if we could sort a bunch em all together so we dont be losin them all.....would be really grand as well....

I like the maps be added into the game. We would some additional code for the Map interface though. Shouldn't be too difficult, but I don't know how to do it.

I have most Pre Build 13 maps added to my site. I could also add the stock game/Build 12.1 maps if you like. I could also add Den Dee's map.

<img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/hi.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":gday" border="0" alt="hi.gif" /> the maps do look nice. At one time I knew how to access the ftp site, but I seem to have lost my way. Can someone point me in the right direction.

Thanks Greg.

P.S. I have been play with the Mod 13 beta for a three or for days now. I have not seen any problems yet. Although I only get maybe an hour a day.

The site is at ftp.piratesahoy.org.
It was changed form ".net"

All else remains the same.

To get on the FTP, you can download the program FTP Commander from the Modding Tools page on my site. Other FTP programs should work as well, but this one is free and it already has the PA! FTP defined in there, so you don't need to change any settings. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

Is QC the only map available on the FTP? I could only see the 'Maps by Den - Quebradas Costillas' as having anything to do with maps, but reading above am I correct to assume there should be others? If so, could someone detail the filenames for the other maps please?

If there are more maps we could add them to the game - they would be available in Map tab.

Thanks for the info on the ftp site. Worked fine once i was able to get my fatfinger typing under control.

thanks again
Greg.

There are some other maps available from the Maps page on my site. But QC is the only island map that is available so far.

To Pirate_KK: I'd like to add those maps into the Map interface in the game. If you or anybody codes it in, I'll add it into Build 13.1 or something like that.
