Problem with Cutter

Sh!fty

Powder Monkey
Hey there, my coastal Cutter is acting strange...

The sail of the vessel won't go all the way down, it stops halfway making it look real dumb..

Anyway of fixing it? Maybe I'll paste the sloop masts on top of the mast of the Cutter...Maybe that'll help <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/whistling.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":wp" border="0" alt="whistling.gif" />

Did you do any modeling on it ? Pasting the masts definitely won't do, because the masts are set by the engine - as are the sails. Did you change any of the locators in the gm file?

I haven't done anything to that vessel... <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />
So what could it be?

You know, that Coastal Cutter is one of JMV's ships and I think it might still have some bugs in it. I was actually surprised to see it when you asked about it, as I don't think I've ever encountered it in the game... <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />

Could you double check that for me Cat? <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/huhh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":eek:k" border="0" alt="huhh.gif" />
Maybe it's just a bug I have so maybe re-installing build 12 will do the trick <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/bounce.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":b:" border="0" alt="bounce.gif" />

I remember this being a "known issue" at one point - if you have the most current version of Pieter's Modpack, there are a lot of bugs that have started coming back... This may be one of them... <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />

(yes, I'll check) <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

Any News? <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />

No, sorry, I did make a try to check this out but got caught up in some other stuff and so wasn't able to. I will try soon. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yes" border="0" alt="yes.gif" /> <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

Okay, I looked at the Cutter and indeed, the sails are shorties. I'm sure it's because that mast does not really belong on that ship - and perhaps JMV did not have a chance to fix things with it before it got into the Build...

Inez, when you swap masts, what must be done to fix the sails so that they are the correct size? Do you know?

I think it isn´t problem with cutter but common and general problem when you have no crew or very small crew. In this case the sails don´t work. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

Not really - only that it's all done with locators. You need to have locators with the right names and orientations in the right places. Didn't skeleton bob once make a tutorial ? I think it was mentioned in the surprise thread (or the thread of the other ship Inzane made) ...

Hmm, is there a thread anywhere with all these "hidden" answers?

Like this one, and then all the other "well known issues"? If not, there should be. Anyone up to doing that? <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/whistling.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":wp" border="0" alt="whistling.gif" />

Not me! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/razz.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":razz" border="0" alt="razz.gif" /> <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile2.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":))" border="0" alt="smile2.gif" />

Search for "ropes and flags" EDIT: <a href="http://forum.piratesahoy.net/index.php?showtopic=4889" target="_blank">http://forum.piratesahoy.net/index.php?showtopic=4889</a>
Was meaning to do a real tutorial on it for the wiki before I disappeared, but didn't get to it.
Also, YGPM.

Most collected bits of misc knowledge like that are on the wiki ( <a href="http://robotsdontbleed.com/wacko/wakka.php?wakka=POTCwiki" target="_blank">http://robotsdontbleed.com/wacko/wakka.php?wakka=POTCwiki</a> ) if you've not been there yet.

Doh! Forgot to actually answer.

JMV made the frankenships before the tool (or at least without the tool) so the rope locators don't match up. That's why you get some odd effects, ropes going to places they shouldn't and sails billowing wrong.
All eminently fixable with the tool, but it takes time.

My crew was at full compliment. Granted, with the cutter, that's only about 35 men, but nevertheless... <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />
