Problem with national relationship

Hi to all readers (little SPOILER)

I looked around the forum, but couldn't find any leads, or may have overlooked, and would appreciate some help here.

I am wondering if the problem I'm currently having has happened to anybody around here. I have been granted a French patent which permits me to start their national quest-line, but unable to do so due to my current engagement with the Brotherhood of the Coast. But that's not the issue here. The real problem is that, not long after I earned the French's trust, I undertook the COAS quest, finished it, and got away with one of the best ships in the game (Dog of War). But the first thing I realized after setting free is that my French flag is gone (didn't go for the French flag perk), although the French patent is still in my possession and my relationship with France is still stated as "Admiration". In addition to that, the French representative (forgot the name) in Tortuga refuses to associate with me, under the basis of unfamiliarity to my character.

Is there anyway to reestablish my credibility with the French nation? Do I have to redo those French governor's small quests again? Or is this one of those incorrigible bugs. Would appreciate your inputs, thanks.

I have noticed a peculiarity about the patents and COAS which might be relevant here. See, I travelled into the COAS and talked to the Admiral, who stripped me of my items. I checked to see if I still had my patent, and I did, but oddly enough when I clicked it the "Equip" button was active. Nothing visibly changed when I clicked the button, apart from the fact that it became inactive.
Which leads me to my bit of speculation that there's a hidden equipment slot for patents and for a patent to be active it must be 'equipped', but the conversation with the Admiral for some reason 'unequips' it. So try equipping it. Other than that I have no idea.

You're right Sordid. It never crossed my mind that the patent is actually equippable. Now the flag magically reappeared once I got it on active. Thanks much.

Yeah, it's kinda weird. When I noticed it my initial thought was that it's because it might be possible to have more than one patent and switch allegiance by equipping them, but unfortunately that's not the case. You can only have one at a time, buying a second patent removes the first one.
Anyway, glad I could help. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

If you switch to betatest mode and buy the patents from the store, not the tavern, you'll be able to own 4 patents at at time, and choose which one you want to equip.

I have all 4 patents now, but I just can't do another nation quest line after being done with English. I did use debug windows, but still no luck.

National lines closely intertwined. You can't attack Fort Orange (English line) and protect Fort Orange (Dutch line) at the same time.
