Problems after stealing idol from british

Ok, Just finished on Greenford killing the guards in the prison, then went out to port to follow the ship with the idol, boarded it, took the ship, and went back to my own ship to sail away. successful, eh? wrong. I get away from the fort, but I can't go to the world map screen. This is a major bug, because I can't go anywhere else. Any ideas? I've never patched the game with anything. If there are fan patches out there I'd be glad to hear of them.

If you are playing the unmodded version (stock off the shelves) of PotC, you will be delighted to hear that there ARE mods available here which will patch most glitches and bugs, plus add a lot of content and `play-ability` - you will be able to continue playing the game AFTER completing the main (Black Pearl) quest, and there are other mods that were in the game but truncated or locked out by the Disney `buy-out` that have been "awakened" and opened for us to play.
