Problems starting the game

I checked some other threads and I didn't see this issue, so I'm sorry if this has been covered.

I installed the game without a problem. However, when I try to play the game, I get through the first couple of intro screens, and I get to the screen with the PIRATES! logo and the spinning wheel cursor. I can't get beyond that screen. It's not a total lock up, because I can exit the game through bringing up the task manager, but I've let it sit on that screen for about ten minutes and nothing happens. The CD drive never gets going after the initial screens.

My computer surpasses all of the system requirements, I've downloaded the most recent drivers for my video card (NVIDIA Ge2), I've manipulated the start up keep from running `non-essential` processes. I've got a P4, 256 RAM, plenty of speed and hard drive space. I've been through the tech support suggestions on the site, but I can't figure out how to get this thing to work.

Thanks.

Same here...i gave up already after spending like 10 hours trying to fix it.

Same here, I just receieved a new Laptop a week ago. 2.0 Ghz Centrino, 1 Gig of RAM, 64 Meg RADEON 9700...shouldn't be having any problems, and I'm not with other "`next-gen`" games (HL2, Doom3, Far Cry, World of Warcraft, etc.) but this is just silly. After Atari intro plays it crashed to the desktop every time like clockwork. Have tried all of the current "fixes" out there at the moment and none seemed to work. I wouldn't be so bothered by this if I was the only one having the problem, but it seems like a large number of people are having similiar issues. Wish this kind of thing would be rectified before shipping just so they could beat the holiday rush.

Same thing happening here. I have an Acer 1600 Pentium III 2.6 Ghz 64 MB Radeon Mobility 9000 Graphic Card and 512 Mb of Ram. The Game is freezing after the Intro. Every other game I have played recently rocks on this machine. Any ideas?

Posted this on another thread...I'd be interested to know if it works for you or not.

POSSIBLE SOLUTION

My game was crashing during the intro every single time I attempted to load the game. On another board someone suggested that I download the program at this website (http://www.`tommti-systems`.com/`main-Dateien`/files.html) and play around with the settings a bit. I downloaded this program, and then checked the box entitled "Emulate HW TnL Caps." Apparently it emulates the texture and lighting for graphics cards that can't do it on their own. Now the game works like a charm. I am still missing some textures on my main character and the tavern keeper on occasion, but at least the game is playable. Savvy?

Just for the sake of reference, I am using a 2.0 Ghz Centrino Laptop with a 64MB RADEON 9700 and 1 Gig of RAM. I would have thought the 9700 would be able to run this game fine, apparently I was wrong.

Hopefully this helps with at least some of you having problems out there.

I have a Compaq Presario X1000 laptop (Radeon 9200), and Pirates would start, then bomb after the start up screen. I tried everything, updated all drivers. I them did the above suggestion, and now it works!

THANKS

Great, I'm glad it's working for some people. There is still a problem with missing textures for others which we need to see rectified...the crashing during the loading screen seems to be a Mobile Radeon issue however...

I feel kind of stupid right now but for some reasons I cannot download the file. I click on this picture of `3-D` analyzer and it says `3-D` analyzer download but when I look at the downloaded file I downloaded something called `Dontlinkthefile_3danalyzer-v234`.rar. It doesn't want to run no matter what I tried. What is my error? I'd be happy over somewhat detailed instructions.

THX everyone

Hey, that worked!

Actually, I too am having the same problem. I have a GeForce 3 ti200, the latest drivers, etc, but as soon as I start the application, I get the black screen, the spinning wheel, and a 'Program not responding' in my Task Manager. The confounding thing is that a friend of mine has an identical rig as mine, and no problems. Another friend has a brand new box with a Radeon 9800, P4 3.x, etc., and his won't work either.

But it's alright. Listening to my friends play over TeamSpeak is almost as much fun as actually playing. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":c" border="0" alt="mad.gif" />

Dowload the drivers at www.omegadrivers.net...you dont even need to use the 3danalyzer program afterwards....they fixed everything for me. Crashing, missing textures, everything. Works beautifully now.

I got Radeon 9000 and omegadrivers still did not fix the problem with the black screen and the wheel <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad.gif" />

For those who got the problem with the black screen and the wheel, try to disable your audio card in Device Manager. There will be no sound but you can play that way until the patch is out.

I turned the sounds off and it works now...but damn this is not a game to play without souds! THIS REALLY sucks! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/william.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":will" border="0" alt="william.gif" />

How do I switch off the sound card in windows xp on the control panel - pls help this dumb ass

I have a SoundMax intergrated sound card. I was considering disabling it and installing a seperate sound card. I don't want to spend money on this to find out this won't work. It definitely is a sound card issue though. I too can turn off Microsoft Audio in MSCONFIG and the game will work without sound. The techs at Atari are stumped. They say based on my machine the game should run. My cpu exceeds the minimum requirements. Has anyone tried a different sound card? <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/hi.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":gday" border="0" alt="hi.gif" />

Well to be honest I don't think there's much point in trying a new sound card. I've got 1 of those inbuilt 97 jobbies which I found to be pretty useless, so it's disabled in BIOS. I now use a SoundBlaster 5.1 which is ok but I can't run Pirates unless I disable the soundcard in Windows. Personally my advice would be unless you've got another soundcard handy then I wouldn't waste money buying another 1 (unless of course you're unhappy with the built in soundcard), I'd wait to see if the problem is resolved in a patch.
